NACS DC Tesla Adapter News Update: Timetable, Priority, Gear Shop Availability

**Breaking Rivian NACS DC Adapter News**

Rivian finally has a time table for NACS DC adapters. Here is what they supposedly are telling guides to share with customers.

- All customers that opt-in for a free NACS
DC Adapter will receive it by mail by the end of January, 2025.

- For customers matched to VINs on/after
September 24, 2024, Rivian will mail their adapter 7 to 10 days after their delivery.

- Adapters will not be available at time of delivery.

- Customers who purchased their vehicles second hand will not receive a free NACS DC adapter. They can purchase an adapter when they become available in the Gear Shop. Note: Rivian will continue to honor the request for any non-original owners that we've already told would receive a free adapter.

- Customers with multiple vehicles will be prioritized to receive only their first NACS adapter based on their delivery timing (oldest to newest). Subsequent adapters will be sent after all opted-in owners have received their first adapter this January.

- Adapters will be available in Gear Shop in late 2024 (originally Rivian said Summer 2024).

I reached out to Rivian for an official comment on this news and there was no comment at this time.

Bought my R1T second hand. Was one of the first to receive the NACS adapter. Thankful that I got one. Had borrowed an A2Z before OEM adapters came out and almost got stranded because of a communication issue with the chargers and Tesla & Rivian told me they didn’t support third party adapters.

Perhaps this explains why I never received my second opt-in email. Rivian assumes I will never take a road trip with both cars (but they are wrong).

I am a bit bummed that I traded in a Rivian for another Rivian and this moved me to the back of the line, since apparently the adapter travels with the vehicle. I don’t get any credit for early adoption.

Or just get the a2z adapter...ships same or next day now.

Pretty sure some second hand owners have theirs already and among first batch to receive. What annoys me more are the folks attempting to cash in on their adapters. First, why opt-in if they didn’t need one? Second, just unethical to profit from something Rivian is giving to owners free of charge. Should be paying it forward by gifting to another owner.

Actually the way this is worded you're likely to get it before me. I was assigned a VIN Tuesday and don't actually complete the purchase until next Friday. Or does " matched to VINs" mean something different than my order was assigned to a specific car?

I know that Rivian has good intentions, but given their history relative to timetables, the 25 January date should probably be looked at as goal rather than a firm commitment.

Thanks. I got mine last week and tried it this morning. Worked great. A little sticky getting it seated in the Rivian the first time. Plugges the Tesla charger cord in and off we went. Averaged between 415-455mi/hr of charge. I was one of two vehicles charging in a 9 charger location. Charge rate was $0.49/kWh, so 55% higher than other fast chargers around me but they are less than half the charge rate. I'm glad I have it. Opens up a lot more travel possibilities and routes.

True, I am 03/2022 delivery and someone buying today will get their adapter before me and I have 2 Rivian’s with the second one 08/2023 delivery. Rivian has no answer for me on why I appear to have been skipped. The folks I am talking to say they have no access to the adapter delivery process and just keep saying they don’t know anything. Haha … I have pretty much given up.
