I've been a fan of Nilay Patel since the Engadget years. His interview with Jim Farley about the Lightning was very good: Ford CEO Jim Farley on building the electric F-150 — and reinventing Ford. He's also done great EV-focused interviews with the heads of VW and Polestar.Best RJ interview I've ever read - thanks. It goes deep into how the VW deal will work and much more.
RJ Scaringe said:So, what we’re doing with this new platform is we’re launching R2 first, allowing some time to get that stable, and then launching R3. I will say this: The first R3 that we’re launching, it’s going to start with R3X, and then we’ll bring in base R3 after R3X.
My favorite part is R3X coming out first before R3!
dang, I wished before R2.Thanks, very good interview and shows some insights into the mind of RJ.

Makes sense to start with the halo, higher price and profit margin vehicle first. Thanks, very good interview and shows some insights into the mind of RJ.

I’ve used a Subaru with a similar “embedded” CarPlay UI. I personally feel that’s confusing especially while driving. Defeats the whole purpose of the “native” experience. But then maybe it was just how it was on the Ascent.I think he's wrong about having to leave the CarPlay app to access the frunk (or other Rivian features). On my Volvo, CarPlay was in a window that didn't take away any access to Volvo features outside of CarPlay. You still had the Volvo UI around the CarPlay window. It works the same in the Ford Lightning.
