Dunno if this mule just had unfinished rims on it, but they do look good in black.
Well that seals it for me. Definitely going black for the 21s!

I think that those black painted 21s are the best looking wheels that I have seen on any Rivian.

Brian
Right? Weird how the machined surfaces highlight the flower by also including the outermost circumference.

Instead the traditional 5 spoke has been the basis of solid performance wheels for a long time.

I agree. To bad black 21s aren't an option from the factory. Now I'm leaning heavily toward having my 22" wheels painted black.

Edit: I meant I want to have my 21" wheels painted black.

That's a $3,000 option. For about $1,000 you can make the 21s black and have a better looking wheel. Also with the 21s you can put the plastic pieces back in and possibly get better range on a long highway trip.

That's exactly what I want to do. I misspoke when I said I wanted to paint my 22 in wheels black. I never planned on getting the 22 inch wheels.

I have preorderd the standard 21 inch wheels, and I plan to paint them black after reading this thread because the pic looked sharp, and it will allow me to reinstall the aero covers to maximize range when needed as you pointed out.

The other issue which makes me pause before switching to the 21's, is the reviews on TireRack are less than stellar. Reviews are great for the 20" AT tire. Thoughts on the matter? Obviously they are not exactly the same specs but....

It can easily last a couple of years if you don't go at it hard with scrub brushes. Easy to touch up stone nicks, too.

Any update on someone painting their 21" wheels black? I agree that this would be the best option if offered from the factory.

I think dark powder coating entire wheel looks best. I tried this idea, I am not sure if I like it. If vinyl wrap is easy to change, maybe we can switch between designs.

Here is a picture of What I did (FG in the back but other Green with 20s in the foreground to compare). I Just Plasti-dipped them. I think eventually I will powder coat them, but for now I am fine with this

There are tons of pics in these threads with people that have powder coated them. It is a great look and I plan to do it. Just don’t plan to use the aero covers as they will probably scratch them up over time with on/off movement. Here’s my favorite from one of the threads…

Not the best photos, but here are my 21's in gloss black. I also took the center caps to the powdercoater with me and he painted them to match (not powdercoat, just paint).
