Not my car - luckily. This town is just north of Denver. Poster on facebook says she was sitting dead stopped in traffic and got rear-ended out of nowhere. No injuries, but a sad day I'm sure.

I got rear ended this week by someone reading an email.

My first thought was, I hope he didn't hit the side panels!

Luckily the steel swing arm for my bike rack was on but the rack wasn't. It blocked his van from hitting my bumper and punched a hole through his grille. I got away with a small scuff and scratch from the swing arm flexing into the bumper.

Nearly every other vehicle I have looked at lately has a sacrificial rear plastic panel with boundary that extends from wheel arch to tail lights.
Rivian appears to have made a rookie mistake with the side panels.

Why does that picture not surprise me? Daily I see people on their phones whilst driving, some even with dogs on their laps. And what do the cops do about it? F' all ... when they're not eating donuts and crashing into the back of others.

I drive my R1T with ball and hitch on permanently for just that reason.
