Not me. I don't have a reservation or intent to buy another car for at least another decade. And where did you get this 10% conversion rate? the ACME magician kit?

Not that AI is always right. But for fodder's sake...

Google Gemini:

Personally, I don't have a horse in this race. But I don't believe I'm wrong in observing R2 enjoys much greater anticipation and enthusiasm than when the Mach-E was announce. For the Ford, most of the chatter was debating whether it had the right to be a Mustang.
Here's another unsubstantiated AI generated answer that completely goes against a large conversion rate expectation.
Rivian R1T R1S 2027 R2 Reveal! Specs, Pricing, Range, Dimensions, Wallpapers, Colors, Interiors 1773433814459-vm

My guess would be a conversion rate of 15-25% of the reservation holders. However, that also doesn't equate to all of those conversions being interested in the LE. As many have noted, they either prefer one of the lower cost trims, want to wait until they can get LiDAR, or maybe want to wait until they could for sure get a Coastal Cloud interior on a performance model.

I wouldn't be shocked if relatively late booking reservation holders have an opportunity to order and take delivery this year.

I live in Phoenix, and have been driving my First Edition Mach-e in the desert for 5 years. The solar filters on an all glass roof that is not very darkly tinted keep the interior very comfortable. More heat comes through the windshield and side windows than the sun roof. Holding your had up near the side windows feels the sun's heating considerably more than holding it near the sun roof. .
Couldn't agree more. I've had my Mach e for about 4 years here in Las Vegas, and I have been pleasantly surprised by the lack of a need for additional tint or a sunshade on the roof glass.

If the R2 has similar protection on the roof glass, that would be great!

We'll find out soon enough. I was once a R1 reservation holder, so are many on this forum. We know how long it took to get our cars. Reservations from recent days hoping to get their cars this year? feels like plain and simple wishful thinking.

As of end of last year, they were rumored to have over 300k reservations. They have already said they project production this year to be just 25k unit. And, if at full-tilt, Normal has capacity to produce 150k~175k—and this is hypothetical, assuming ramped to full pace, and all conditions being ideal, with no context of when and if they will reach that rate.

I don't doubt or discount your experiences as R1 owners. However, I don't think it's fair to equate the R2 launch with the R1 launch for a myriad of reasons.

All I'm saying is, the conversion rate is not likely to be all that high. Of the 100-200k reservations that Rivian took in from the announcement (March 7, 2024) to the end of that year, there is very good likelihood that most (over 50%) will not follow through. They may have simply lost interest, they may have found another EV that suits their needs, they may be in the middle of a lease they can't break, they may have been banking on the $7500 tax credit and the $45k version of the R2, hell some of them may have died.

Then of the ones that will eventually convert, maybe there are a large chunk that want the Standard trim, another chunk that wants LiDAR and is willing to wait, and on and on.

For the reasons above, even if Rivian only delivers 25k units this year, it wouldn't shock me if someone that reserved in lets say October 2025, was able to take delivery this year.

Mustang Mach-e First Edition
I waited for the Tesla Y to come out with great anticipation. Test drives were available almost immediately. My test drive was disappointing, mostly due to terrible turning radius, terrible rear view through the rear view mirror, and a few important features missing, many of which are now available. So, I waited for the Mach-e to arrive, but did not make a reservation for one. Again, test drives were available as soon as deliveries started, and we loved the Mach-e, and ordered one. Were told the wait was likely 10-14 months. OK. A week later the dealer called and asked if we wanted an in-bound First Edition that was just canceled by the reservation holder who ordered it. Two weeks later we were driving our Mach-e FE. I have little hope we will be so lucky getting a Launch Edition R2, but do expect to have an excellent test drive and owning an R2 before the end of 2026.

For most of people, $60k is lots of money. For ppl work in California tech, it's not even a small bite of stock compensation. R2 will sale very well.

But many are getting laid off because of AI. On the other hand, average transaction on a new car peaked just over $50k in 2025. R2 LE's price isn't too far of a stretch from there. It's a chunk for single income households. But less so for two two-income households.

Ya never know - demand might get high enough that they are able to hire more workers to crank out more R2s faster & exceed that production target.

I think the projected 25k is due to ramp limitations and supply. Supply is most important factor here, since all that is negotiated and scheduled up front. And supply also require lead time.

With a build and price unavailable at this time I've put together a spreadsheet tracking the various trims and options. I'll try and keep it updated when new info becomes available, mainly the option pricing. Let me know if you find an error.

I was confused by different discussions about the speaker content so asked the Rivian AI chatbot and this was the response to my question about the total number of speakers:
The R2 Performance trim comes with Rivian Premium Audio, which includes 9 speakers, plus 2 midwoofers and 2 subwoofers in a force-balanced configuration, for a total of 13 audio element

Standard SR has same 0-60, HP, TQ as the Standard LR. Battery size is just "TBD".

Interesting it is 13 as I have only seen 5 and 9 for speaker count for the two interiors.

Forced-balanced speakers have two opposing speakers (or a passive radiator) to cancel out vibrations in the housing, so the sub and mid-bass drivers (assuming rear doors) have two opposing units but it seems they are labeling them as a single speaker in the marketing count.

Also there seems to be a number people on R2 reservation list, even though they really just want an R3.
