not if you have young kids as I do. Incredibly useful then.
I have two and I disagree. Bad viewing angle, bad size and no separate Bluetooth/headphone connection. We only do car screen time on long trips but in any case hanging a cheap iPad on the built in hooks is 100000x better with less complexity.

If they are spending any time on trying to get video onto that back screen it’s a complete waste in my opinion. To be perfectly honest the rear screen itself is nearly pointless and could have been left out for simple rear zone hvac access controls

have to agree to disagree, the ipad on a seat back has proven problematic for us

as well even currently Rivian supports 2 concurrent bluetooth connections so there’s no technical roadblock to allowing a bluetooth connection to the rear screen only.
Angle is no issue for us my kids spend an inordinate amount of time tapping it and watching Gary wave as it is

I'll go batsh!t crazy if I'm forced to type a pin every time I get in the car. The number of things that reset every time I get in to drive is already annoying, if the car even locks and unlocks properly. I honestly think this would put me over the edge and get a car with a normal key and settings that stay where I put them.
I don’t think there’s a single vehicle in the world that ā€œforcesā€ you to do this but it’s a less intrusive additional layer of security that you can turn on in some other cars at least in comparison to what the MFA sounds like

As far as I can tell, the car only has one modem for data and one transmitter for sending bluetooth audio so you would have to either listen to the rear screen audio or nothing.

One option I would like though is the option to turn off the rear screen entirely - right now you can only lock it or turn off all screens.

It has one bluetooth module but it supports at minimum two simultaneous connections you 100% can send two audio streams

The ā€œnumberā€ of radios is irrelevant, it’s how many connections those radios support. Most modern radios support multiple streams. As well you’d only be using the transmitter for rear screen audio ( 1 stream) to headphones the modem would be used for your phones connection to the infotainment ( assuming you’re playing something from your phone) otherwise you’re using no bluetooth at all. Rear screen, headphones via bluetooth, front screen speakers wired

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Most of the time I'd just love to be able to put something else on that part of the display as it's generally of no value to me. So I don't really care what it shows. However, it is annoying as crap sitting at a light watching the cars in front of you doing the Macarena in the display! 🤣
Teslas do this as well. I wonder why? Just today I had a motorcycle behind me and it displayed it as a motorcycle within a jittery car. It couldn’t figure out if it was a motorcycle or a car, so it displayed both bouncing around behind me.

Wow let’s completely overreact before we have any idea how this will be implemented. Sell your car now just to be safe.

Not really overreacting considering their history of doing just that with drive modes, height adjustment, collision settings, even Wi-Fi so thanks for the input.

Target level for charging stops: When using navigation for a trip that includes a charging stop, now it’s easy to see the recommended charge target for your trip from the vehicle or the Rivian mobile app. Simply start your charge, and the app will calculate and notify you (both in the vehicle and on the Rivian mobile app) when you’ve reached the ideal charge level for your trip.
Been wanting this since the first road trip 2 years ago lol. Finally!

Multi-factor Drive? Maybe, just maybe, this could be ever so slightly useful to fleet customers? Seems rather ridiculous for consumers. Is there a rampant problem of R1 car thefts or car-jackings? Why was this a priority for the software team?
Maybe not a priority but something they felt could be implemented at this time. That doesn’t mean all other issues were put on the back burner. It could just mean other issues are more complicated and haven’t been remediated yet. Rivian can focus on more than one thing at a time and why not release fixes and other smaller enhancements as they go.

Interesting, my only Tesla is a Highland Model 3. It charges slower than both T and S but due to battery size being much smaller they end up damn close by % to time. For example on Superchargers, last weekend starting at 36% in M3, I got 29kwh in 16 min = 1.8 per minute. Yesterday at 37% in T, I got 55 kwh in 23 min = 2.4 per minute. I love the 3 but for size of vehicle, I believe Rivians hold their own in my experience. I was really hoping the 3 would charge better.
Hm… this doesn’t sound right. What’s the max speed of the Supercharger that you’re at (should be 250kW if it’s V3)? Are you charging to 100%? Are you preconditioning the battery by navigating to the Supercharger? I’d also recommend driving the state of charge down to at least 20% or lower and only up to 80% for the fastest charging times and healthiest battery life.

I also have a Highland Model 3 and I hit 250kW right away if I’m below 20%, then it drops to 130-150kW for a while, then down to 70-80kW closer to 60-70%, and then maybe 20-30kW near 80% (these are all casual observations). The whole process only takes 30 minutes tops. The higher your state of charge the slower your EV will charge as you are jamming electrons into a tighter and tighter space. It might seem like the R1s charge just as fast, but it depends on their battery size and what state of charge you’re starting them on.

I hope this helps. I know the complexity of it all is confusing. It’s a whole new world with EVs, but battery tech and charging speeds will continue to improve over time.

For the MFA, it appears that Rivian is using the mobile app as the authenticator app, and those that enable MFA will have two options to authorize driving:

  1. Acknowledge authentication notification on your phone (which has the Rivian mobile app installed)
  2. As a backup option, the driver can also access a time-based passcode on their smartphone. Go to Security and access and choose View time-based passcode
If MFA is enabled, you don't need an internet connection, nor does your phone need to be connected to the vehicle.

This is all pretty standard with MFA/authenticator apps.

Acknowledging a push notification is also a pretty good option for valet parking. You get a notification when the valet wants to operate your vehicle, and you approve/deny (I'm assuming that when using a valet service, you're not in the middle of nowhere w/out cell service).

Great observation. I was kind of waiting to see how they would implement this but to your point, this could be another use case for MFA. Let’s see.

I’m curious to see how this MFA plays out, but why an MFA and not just an owner selected PIN? MFA sounds like a PITA for regular use and would require a phone. Wouldn’t a PIN accomplish the same thing without the presence of the ownerā€˜s phone, nor the involvement of a third party? Maybe the Time Based Passcode can be set to 24/7, effectively making it a PIN - dunno.
