In what sense?I am still surprised Rivian isn't allowing that disconnect arrangement to be shut off.
I'll occasionally get chirp if the conditions are right but honestly the 22s on my truck don't usually make noise like that even when they are slipping. The 21s on the R1S have been plenty chirpy though. My Quad R1T has never chirped, or burned out doing a Sport launch despite being on 20"AT's which underlines the extremely low latency in it's reaction to changing conditions.
They are using oil in the motor versus the bosch unit which didn't. There's also a potential point of wear in how the disconnect is integrated and designed versus the bosch one that was basically just an external device bolted onto the drive unit. It's probably designed to be a lifetime fill though, the oil won't get broken down from heat like it will in an ICE.Okay just watched and lots of interesting things. One question I have is at Video 12:15 you can see he moves what appears to be an oil filter. Would this need to be maintained/changed or is this good for a lifetime?
Like in the quad motors.....if I want max efficiency, I switch to conserve and it disconnects the rear motors. If I don't care about max efficiency, I can be in any other mode and keep the rear motors engaged. In what sense?
I think sport mode keeps all motors active and sends more torque to the rear when needed.Like in the quad motors.....if I want max efficiency, I switch to conserve and it disconnects the rear motors. If I don't care about max efficiency, I can be in any other mode and keep the rear motors engaged.
So in the sense I may not want the computer algorithm deciding when I want power at rear and subsequently lock and unlock the rear motor, I would rather have some daily drive type modes that simply keep that motor engaged.
Agreed. I think the dual motor is very significant for Rivian to stay viable but the Quad motor was necessary to get them into the market and all the different drive modes are fantastic. I can't rave enough about rally mode for hooning around town.I would have liked to have heard some acknowledgement that doing the Bosch quad to start was a reasonable choice as it delivered differentiated quad capabilities in time to get them to market when they did. I think the Rivian-native dual motor is an awesome addition but had they taken the time to start with it and then had a "me too" dual motor as their gambit, I think they'd have a bigger viability challenge today.
Not soon enough!Enduro motor quad setup… when? That’ll be awesome
