Probably 99% of people who have had vehicles totaled would probably agree it sucks. That applies to this incident.

The OP has likely been offered something by a company representative who "was not authorized to offer that" and that offer has been rescinded. Yes, that sucks too.

I've had both of the above happen multiple times since becoming an adult. Sometime bad stuff just happens in your life. You do what you can and move on.

OP.. no point fighting your battle on FB, here, etc.. get a lawyer, go to court.

Um, if you get bored on the Chevy forum, for laughs visit a Jeep forum... talk about anger o_O

Can't blame the owners though.. at one point recently Jeep told us 4xe owners because of a possible battery fire concern not to charge the traction battery but use the gas engine instead. Then, concurrently they discovered sand from factory casting in some engine blocks which caused another recall, but this time on the gas engine. Jeep was clueless and issued advise this time like "try not to use the gas engine". So we can't charge the traction battery and are advised to "try not to use the gas engine". Seriously? These clowns make Rivian Corp look like genius's :headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:
OT, but this might be Jeep's next recommendation:

If Rivian's own insurance declared it a loss, then it would now have a branded title, and clearly should not be accepted back repaired.

But "cash equal to the amount needed to buy a same year/model/pre-accident-condition" is a perfectly reasonable offer. We don't know if that's what's being offered or not.
Rivian is very likely self-insured up to a number far above the cost of a vehicle.

Which of these Gen 1 accessories are not compatible with a Gen 2?

When asked what I would be comfortable receiving, I responded with a 2026 R1T, dual max, with 22” black sport rims, green color and dark interior (this is one of the configurations sent in a screenshot on February 19, 2026. This is as close as I can get to my original truck (betterment, not detriment). I do acknowledge the requested replacement truck is a betterment, going from Gen 1 to Gen 2 with a max pack. I feel this is a reasonable compromise and fulfills Rivian’s commitment to making me whole. The accessories purchased included a home charger, spare tire and tire changing kit, all weather mats, running boards and window tinting. I also recently placed new tires on the vehicle which have less than 2000 miles on them. None of these accessories would be compatible with a new truck. Thus I am thankful for Rivian refunding my purchase price on these items

Mats and running boards.
And I assume he's claiming the home charger is not compatible since the plug is different. lol

And the spare tire kit (assuming he's talking about the kit including the spare wheel itself), probably since he's trying to select a different truck with different wheels.

I agree that the optics are bad for Rivian. They had an opportunity to turn a terrible situation into a tremendous situation, full of positivity. Shame on them for rescinding the original offer (and it was not expected).
Lmao. The optics are bad for you, and all of your friends you’ve enlisted to spam this garbage all over the internet. You are delusional. You asked for a $90k truck to replace a $40k truck and are kicking and screaming all over the internet because you didn’t get your way. I feel bad for any Rivian employee who has the misfortune of dealing with you.

Most enthusiast forums are tough crowds, and this thread is no exception. Sorry to the OP, this situation shouldn’t have happened, and Rivian clearly dropped the ball. Yes, by the letter, it falls under insurance.

But offering the OP a comparable in‑stock vehicle from a trade‑in or long‑term demo would’ve been a meaningful goodwill gesture. Unfortunately, goodwill isn’t something you see often in the business world or on many forums.
Agreed. This is not the kind of responses I expected to see on this forum. Wow. When I signed up, I don’t recall seeing “no posting of anything negative about Rivian” as part of the forum rules. Guess I missed that. Some folks, like me, want to know the good AND the bad about a company they plan to do business with without seeing post after post from the same people who think their opinion is only one that matters. Say it once and move on, please.

There are no such rules. But as with any public town square, you'd be foolish to think everything you say will be popular or agreeable to most. And no matter how eloquent you are, 1 is still not 2.

Is it just me, or has there been an uptick in "brand new accounts whose only post is blasting Rivian service, with no photos or evidence" posts recently?

Is someone shorting their stock and trying to make a public perception of service being terrible? (Okay, I know Rivian service isn't great, but some of these posts are way beyond the 'normal not great service.')
To be fair, one of the complaints about the service was from me.

It's not about not posting anything negative about Rivian, I did just last week, and it was received fine. It's about your buddy being greedy as hell and getting called out on it. I am willing to bet when Rivian offered a "new" truck, it was a new to HIM truck, not a brand new 2026. Had your buddy not been downright delusional about it, he could have walked away with a little better truck than the one he had. Maybe fewer miles, or a year newer, or maybe even a Gen 1 quad.

Instead, your pal decided to demand a brand-new truck to replace his three-year-old 30K-mile truck. There is no manufacturer on earth that's going to agree to that deal, and I'd be mad at Rivian if they did do so. Maybe you and your friend should take this as a lesson about being greedy instead of reasonable.
