Hello all. A local shop was installing the Hannshow electric retractable steps on my Gen 2 R1S. For reasons I won't go into I went home that night without the tub in place and got about 10 different errors including TPMS and airbag errors (not sure why those would all trigger from just the two wires being disconnected from the front tub).--TLDR, there was confusion with the shop on what two wires to tap. I came back the next morning and helped them finished the install after tapping the indicated wires in the main harness in the passenger side kick panel. Now I have a sustained "service air bag system warning" after reconnecting everything, etc. From what I understand the airbag system in no way runs through that main harness.

Any idea why this might be the case? Any chance some sage individual here has or maybe a map for that main wiring harness? I did do a full computer reset and did a power/sleep reset. I have not a done a battery disconnect as it seems that that's under the front seat?

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to further reset things would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a code was triggered which might need to be cleared by Rivian or someone with the Rivian diagnostic software/scanner?

I'm planning to replace a failed seat heater in our i3 and I read that if you don't pull the main high voltage disconnect and the 12 volt power before replacing the seat heater (which is built in to the seat cushion) you'll trip a "airbag system malfunction" code which can only be cleared by BMW or someone with Bimmerlink software and the BT interface dongle.

If related and not coincidental, they probably monitor and detected voltage fluctuation, which triggered the out-of-normal-parameters fault. If they determine your modifications is the cause, you will have to pay out of pocket.

I'm definitely hoping that this is the case and I just need to get the code cleared. Unfortunately the steps don't work (main module on the stairs isn't communicating by bluetooth for some reason) so I'm going to need to do at least some of this process again when I replace the control module. I'm pretty certain they didn't tap anything related to the air bag system and the only other cause that I can tell would be power-cycling the 12v system.

Well, the place that installed them (or their insurance policy) would pay out of pocket, but yes, agreed, hopefully it's just a 12v thing from disconnecting/reconnecting the main 12v.
