Surf Mode? Key options for watersports

Excited to join R2 family, wondering about locking or closing the car when I’m out surfing- what do y'all do? I don’t want to put my phone in a dry bag. My van still has a door only physical key that works great. Unfamiliar w options for Rivian

Can I drill out a keycard and put it on a lanyard? Can you lock your phone inside if it’s a key?

There is a 2023 forum post about the ‘wristband’ but it seems Rivian dropped this product?

A few spots I go I’d actually be okay leaving unlocked but handles sticking out seems like a big advertisement to come and take what you want. Can you ‘hide’ the handles without a key?

Yes you can leave phone in car, just turn off bluetooth.
Keycard is really your only waterproof option, there is some place that melts your keycard and makes a ring out of it.

I just keep the card on me, and disable BT and wifi on my phone, leave it in the Rivian.

Not sure about punching a hole in the card, maybe find an ID card sleeve and lanyard to slip it in?

I believe the the R2 supports using a smartwatch as a key (Ultrawide band/ UWB) like G2- R1's . I am not in the Apple ecosystem and I drive and Gen 1 R1 - so take my comment with a grain of salt.

This has always been a sore subject for me as the "Keep the world Adventurous Forever" slogan and reality don't fit here. Rivian uses a lot of surfing imagery in marketing material, and indeed my R1T has given me 4 great years of surfing/camping adventure. But they completely went away from a simple to carry waterproof lock/unlock option, which seems like not an amazingly complex problem to solve. When the "Adventure" happens to be surfing a spot with a crowded lot or street parking, having to deal with hiding my phone/fob somewhere or bringing a bag down to the beach and hiding it somewhere always has me thinking "come on man, what are we doing?"
I know, I know, the vast vast majority of Rivian owners are not using them as adventure vehicles, and the vast majority of people in the this world can't drive 20 minutes to go surf in the morning. Just like the vast majority of people wearing Patagonia clothes aren't ice climbers. But if you're going to always show pictures of your vehicles parked by the ocean with some hipster retro single fin strapped to it, throw us surfers a bone.

Haha, it's not just Rivian - it's every car company.... Check out all those 'adventure'-oriented ID. Buzz and RAV4 ads! Always a bright long board with no wax and no leash that's never been ridden.

Our old Ford Escape had the door keypad, which was awesome! supposedly was easy to hack, but it sure was awesome since you could even give your buddy the code.

My swim gear has a spot for a key card/ID. Works well enough. The wrist band works, but IMO it wasn't a great solution for surfing since it could come unclipped somewhat easy and my first one eventually broke just sitting around.

Wrist band on gen1, keycard in wetsuit on gen 1/2. Apple watch on gen2.

My tesla card can be punched. Do a search online to where the safe places to punch for Rivian is.
Here something I found:
"only punch in the interior of the card, well away from both the perimeter antenna and the NFC chip. The lowest-risk location reported by Rivian owners is near the middle of the short end opposite the chip, roughly ¾ inch (about 19 mm) in from that short edge and centered side-to-side. Do not punch close to an edge."

I use a wristband. it was $150 at the service center, not sure if it is supported by R2. When I am at the beach or fishing, I always have it.

Used wristband but was very nervous of it falling off. Switched to Apple Watch which works great.
