Being a high volume car, projected, matter of time aftermarket smoke or clear markers becomes available. Probably versions in distasteful colors too.
That's what I was thinking. Not only will there be other options but possibly something an owner could personalize.

Reminds me of “JDM” style lights on a Honda.

Glad I am not alone!! I thought it was some cheap tape as well. Just kind of dismissed it because I figure the PPF people will figure it out

Spotted on a pre-delivery R2 in a Rivian service center lot. At first I thought there was some protective film over the side marker, but now I'm wondering -- is the RIVIAN badge on the side markers just a stretched piece of tape over the light diffuser? It looks pretty cheap to me and I'm wondering how well it will hold up if that's what it is.

This was already covered by an owner; they verified it's not tape-it's a yellow layer on top of the clear substrate.
No automaker would use tape or films relying on adhesives to apply a life-safety feature like the color of brake, or signal lights.

I didn't snap a pick of it today but it looks 100% fine. When illuminated, it gives it great depth.

I don't understand all the "cheap look" comments; I find it much more sophisticated than just making it a plain amber color or a clear lens with an amber LED element. It's perfect as it is.

Maybe you have to see it in person, but when I was walking around the R2, it stood out as looking like something temporary -- like a protective film -- intended to be peeled off. Some R2 owners/reviewers are saying the same.

I think it is like that to provide more light.

Walking around the vehicle it looks good, when it is lit up it looks good. Only time it looks a bit off is if you get right on top of it.

No complaints from us on how ours looks.

Agreed. It's a turn signal marker--if other cars are looking at THAT angle at your turn signal, you have a major problem on your hands....

Plus, I'd imagine it's less blinding (indirect light) to other drivers than if it was just colored lens with LED, instead of an embedded graphic layer that is offset from—and backlit by—the light emitter.

Yeah there’s an epidemic of drivers blinded by LEDs on wheel wells. 🙄
