Yeah, unfortunately 19/21” fall into the same odd category where there are few options. I would definitely take the 19 over the 21” any day. 18” would be ideal offroad size, something missing from the R1 options (caliper is too big).
DomDoesMedia has an 18" he's working with for his R2 LE. Going to be tight I'm sure, but will be awesome if he can get it working. I think he's going with a 255/70R18 (so still 32").

Sounds like a bad idea. Too much side wall. Might help a bit in off-roading situations but road handling will be adversely affected….big time. Won’t be any efficiency gains either.

He spends about 50% of his time off-road. Maybe more. Here's one of his first videos with the R2 off-roading:

So what I have noticed on my LE LG 21's vs my R1T QM and R1S QM is almost 50% better mile per kwh. In the R1's I was getting about 2-2.25 m/kwh, on the exact same daily commute I am seeing 4.08-5 m/kwh. This is really all that matters.

I have also noticed in terms of pack usage I am also using 50% less energy on a daily basis. Very impressed with the R2.

Wow! That's awesome. Double the efficiency.

Thx for the link…I’m coming from a lifted Wranger Rubicon Unlimited. The R2 seems like a poor choice for hard core off-roading…though fine for easy and perhaps more moderate trails. The lack of articulation and limited approach and departure angles is especially problematic.

Oh yeah - we've got a 2dr JL on 35s. Totally agree that the R2 won't be close to that sort of capability. But at 9.6" of ground clearance, I'd think it will be close to a stock 4Runner in what it can do. There are a few people like Dom and Karen Whitworth that really off-road their Rivians. Karen is already working with someone on a lift and sway-bar disconnects. I think she has a few other items she's working on too. Clearly any of those modifications (just like with your Jeep) won't help efficiency, but not everyone cares about that (same reason people lift Wranglers, put larger tires, etc). I think we'll pretty quickly see lift kits, rear spare tire holders, larger tires (33s for sure, maybe more), sway-bar disconnects, upgraded tie-rods, etc. Hopefully someone can figure out lockers. Going to be cool to see what comes of it.

Sway bar releases would be especially helpful. I suspect lockers will be impossible unless accomplished through programming…which would be a Rivian project.

Current snapshot (especially for the peanut gallery)

After nearly 40,000 accumulated miles, data point in the opposite direction from the expected ranking. Recent R2 discussion also specifically notes that Roamer is currently showing the ATs as more efficient, despite the expectation that the 21” all-season should win.

Stay tuned…or better yet, don’t, save your hard earned money and buy some shitty-ass Pirelli at the advice of others! 🤣 😂 …might save you $0.005 per mile but cost you $2k to replace every 6-12 months…

I’ve changed my mind, I don’t know why anyone would say anything bad about Pirelli tires, they are packed with cutting edge technology!

Interesting/good data point. The Rivian Roamer data for R2 seems to be converging on ~2.7 MPK average efficiency regardless of 20/21” tire setup. Is your lifetime average much higher than that? If so, do you tend to only drive 30-50 mph?

Average speed is 65mph at least that what I think. Will need to check the car. My commute is about 26 miles each way and 23 at highway speed. I set the UHF to 75 and let it rip.

Life time I am at 2.42MPK with average speed of 32mph. This will increase as I have only had the car since Friday and have had 2 days on my regular commute.

Gap is shrinking, appears to be converging around ~2.7 MPK (exactly 20% more efficient than the R1). This means first leg of a road trip could be ~200 miles or so, then 150 miles between chargers (using 10% to recharge up to ~75%). So net effect is range is 20% less than the Gen 1 but 20% more efficient…

I read the first 8 1/2 pages, but gave up on the back and forth. No big deal, but I want to ask where you guys are seeing the tire efficiencies on Rivian Roamer as I don’t see it? I assumed it was on the leaderboard page.
