I did not as the rates were too high. Rivian uses Chase who I have a long and excellent history with but that history doesn't really matter when the rates are set even with excellent credit. Also I don't think they were offering terms under 48 months which is what I preferred.

I ended up with Navy Federal at 3.89%.
Pretty good rate. 84 months? Do you have to become a member before applying for a loan? My dad is a vet, so it looks like I would qualify. Don't feel like opening a new bank account just to apply though.

Are most people going with Rivian financing? Rivian's direct to consumer model is tripping up some lenders I've applied with.
  • Feb. 10: Made reservation / Provided lease docs showing 9/1/26 lease end
  • June 30: Got email saying I can expect to order within 2–4 weeks
  • July 14: Order placed on July 14 / Carolina Cove with 21" wheels
  • Aug. 5: Received VIN 57XX, ready to begin purchase process
  • TBD: Delivery at Fishers SC
I went with USAA due to the rate Rivian was offering (and USAA beat my local credit unions who I have no existing relationships with).
The funding process is a little weird for USAA as I chose an ACH transfer which means USAA sends Rivian a funding request, which Rivian is supposed to fill out with the purchase details and their routing number, then send back to USAA. I had to give that form to Rivian but they accepted it as proof of financing. I'll see if there's any issue at delivery as USAA is not yet reporting the loan as having started.

That said, if your bank offers a wire transfer or check option, you could explore that route too. PNC gave me a blank check valid up to my preapproval amount that would initiate the load when deposited, or just expire if I didn't use it.

They offer up to 84 months but I was doing a shorter term, 36 or less. The rate is still pretty good for up to 60 (I believe 4.29). I think at 72-84 its like 5.99 which honestly is competitive if you want a much longer term.

Also, opening up an account is super simple so don't let that deter you. You just need to keep a few dollars in there to keep it open if its not your primary account.

Pro tip for everyone switching to the R2 (or any EV for that matter).

Make sure you remove your previous EV from the charging apps if you no longer have that EV.

Rookie mistake on my part, forgot to remove my R1S from the EVGo app. A new charge appeared (presumably from the new owner or transporter) for mine. I sold it an 2 weeks ago.

Rang up CS with EVGo and they were very accommodating and will reverse that charge.

It’s these little thing that make me wish I had a 20 year younger brain.

Same with any electronic tolls, parking garages, etc. that could be linked to your plate. I think most people know to cancel their registration with the DMV if selling your plates, so traffic tickets might not be an issue, but parking fines and tolls could still rack up.

In Texas they apparently cannot transfer standard plates to the new car, so I'm going to have to find all the places my plates are registered and unlink/update them. Less of an issue if they let me keep my old plates for fun, but still annoying.

Well, here's an interesting data point: my delivery for tomorrow was cancelled and rescheduled to next Tuesday. I just got a call from the local SC and was told the techs need more time to perform the PDI and calibrations. He said that they have only done about 10 R2 deliveries in Austin and are still getting up to speed on the process for R2 and its taking some more time than they anticipated. He did not say there were any identified issues with my VIN at this point.

[Edit: I just got a response from the [email protected] account saying the cancellation is "due to a delay in rail, most likely" and that the delivery team would reach out (which they already had). Clearly, they did not actually check anything because they should have known my car was already at a SC, and if there was a rail delay why would they wait until 24 hours prior to reschedule. They would have known well before that if it really was stuck in transit.]

Full timeline:
  • Reserved 3/7/2024
  • Invited to order 6/16/2026
  • Order placed 6/16/2026
  • Pre-production email: 6/27/2026
  • VIN assigned/purchase steps begin: 7/6/2026
  • Original Pickup scheduled 7/22/2026 (for 8/7)
  • New Pickup scheduled 8/6/2026 (for 8/11)

I'm frustrated that my pickup was cancelled with less than 24 hours to go, but I am glad the delay is small. Seems like Rivian needs to get their SC techs up to speed and also figure out their logistics. I would have rather been told "your car in transit, we'll reach out soon to soon to schedule delivery" and only been given a delivery appointment once it was at the SC and they knew about how long it would take them to get through the inspection. Ideally the "appointment scheduled" to actual appointment date would only be a couple days rather than the several weeks it seems most people are getting, and then having it changed out from under them last minute.
This is very close to my data points. All first few dates are the same up to my original pickup was scheduled around 7/22 for an 8/1 pickup. Was called on 7/30 that it was delayed and scheduled for 8/7. Got a call tonight that they have to delay me to at least Tuesday as the sales manager got an email from the factory asking to halt deliveries until a software update (assuming the new .41) can be installed at the service center. Promises me I’ll be able to get it Tuesday

So I got a call from the SC saying the car is ready for pickup tomorrow! Very nice. Even with the replacement of the Zonal control only 1 day off from the original delivery.

Also I asked to know what zonal controller was replaced and they said a southern one. They also mentioned its noted in the system incase any future issue. Rivian SC really coming through strong to get the delivery done!

I have tried to cancel my order 3 times but zero response from Rivian. I guess they want to ship it to Dallas?! If anyone in the metroplex ordered an ES on 20’s, VIN 3093 is heading our way 😃

I was able to chat with a real person through the AI chat today. I was asking about VIN and delivery timing and it put through to a rep. I bet you could ask it to route you to a live person. Hope this helps.

Great idea, thanks for sharing. I tried to add the R2 to several of those apps and found only a few actually had the R2 as an option. Luckily I don't fast charge often and hopefully the apps will update when I need them.

Yeah. I found even using the R2 vin it’s too new for those apps. The only one I use regularly is ChargePoint, but that’s bc my office has their chargers installed in the parking lot and it’s free.

I had the same issue. The Rivian transaction report says finance was completed via USAA, but USAA has not started the loan. The Rivian person who contacted me about delivery says we are set until we get a delivery date.

Another issue I'm running into getting financing quotes is that a couple of credit unions are wanting a purchase agreement to process my credit application. My understanding is that Rivian doesn't produce an agreement until later in the purchase process. Anyone else run into this?
