Entirely different?? Similar price, very close on overall size, frunk, passenger and cargo capacity. Same spec level names, very similar performance and range (EPA) range figures. Rivian themselves quite the Model Y as a key competitor. Just because the R2 could do some more light off roading (for the minority that would use it that way) does not make the vehicles “entirely different”.

I disagree. The MYP is designed to be fast and efficient in all respects - raising the seating position and providing more space from a M3 didn’t change that. The R2 is designed from the start to be a capable SUV. Just because they’re both electric and will make Costco runs doesn’t them the same. I just don’t see a MYP shopper buying an R2 and vice versa - if you’re looking for speed and agility you don’t buy an SUV type vehicle. If you’re looking for some clearance, off road ability and a forgiving suspension you don’t buy an MYP. Sure you can cross shop them but you’ll have to choose what’s most important to you.

Not sure what you mean. You don't get free tow package and autonomy with MYP. So they're both just giving different freebies as I said in my post. "You just get different free stuff essentially."

The 0.99% APR, $3,300 down, 72 mo on the Tesla is probably the biggest benefit people forgot to mention. Tesla is eating a lot of money with that.

Yeah but they have more margin to play with than Rivian. I think the nice financing went away on the Performance model too. I felt like if I wanted a true performance car, I wouldn't get an SUV and instead would rather have a smaller sports sedan. If I want a true SUV, I want some size and ride height so the R2 fits that spec for me better.

Oops. Must have clicked the regular Premium. Yeah it's 3.99% APR for Performance Y so it's not as compelling as the cheaper Ys at 0.99%.

You also have to remember that tesla uses market-based pricing where Rivian does not. Also, Tesla must be seeing a huge impact to New P sales since they lowered rates. Seems like they are losing a lot of sales to R2...

Owning my R1S for a few years, the R2 felt like just driving my R1S. There were minor differences here and there but it's mainly a smaller R1S.

While the vehicle was great, it was overshadowed by the Service Center/Sales experience. The sales guy seemed like he could care less that we were looking to buy one. He also asked us if we've ever driven an EV, so there was absolutely no information looked up about who was taking the test drive. The name and email (and login) used for the reservation is the same one my R1S is tied to. On top of that, the R2 was parked in direct sunlight and the interior was about 120F when I got in. When you schedule an appointment and confirm it earlier that day, maybe have the vehicle cooled down or parked in the shade. No one else was there to do test drives and the sales guy was nowhere to be found when I returned. The service manager had to go get him from the back, to give him the key. It was as if I was supposed to feel privileged to have even touched an R2.

I hope they sell every one they make.

Not sure you can say they are losing “a lot” of sales of the MYP. The Premium is where the volume is and the MYP is still charging above that for interest, has high lease cost and hasn’t reduced prices. Demand seems to be there for the MY and there is a big enough market for both Tesla and Rivian to do well. R2 volume this year at 25k is a rounding error for MY volume for the year (350k).

So I ran over to the new Trenton Service Center to spend time with the R2 again, it's been 3 weeks since my test drive. So, the seat is still weird, I can live with it I think. I just have to sit with my shoulders leaned forward off the seat (which I kind of do anyway), if I sit back or have the seat to vertical I feel the crease. It isn't so much the crease, but that the top panel is set back about 1/2 inch from the main part of the seat, why??

Also, the cupholder is hot garbage. Why not just use the one you designed and stock for the R1? I never popped it out of my test drive, but that thing is loud and very much not smooth. The plastic sliding/grating on plastic sound is terrible. Maybe it will get better when it breaks in. I popped my R1S cupholder in and out all the time, maybe this one will just have to stay in out position, feels like it will break if I use it too much.

I say this with 85% certainty I will convert my order. I have been waiting for this since the announcement. But I'll walk away from my $500 if I'm just not feeling it with this vehicle. My i4 is making it difficult.

Complete opposite experience I had with my sales person, sorry to hear that.

Yeah, I don't know why they designed the seat that way. Didn't anybody at Rivian, during the last couple of years, mention it notice this. It's so unnecessary, and I think the rest of the seat is great.

Geely has owned Volvo since 2010, so that part isn’t exactly new. The EX60 also isn't a rebadged Geely. It was developed in Gothenburg on Volvo own platform and is built in Sweden. Chinese-owned, yes, but I wouldn’t really call it a Chinese car...

Volvo (and Polestar) is a Swedish company, owned by a Chinese parent company.

Their tech is licenses from MobileEye, which has dropped LiDAR.
