My wifes X5 was 90k, drives me nuts I can't even get a set of Golf Clubs straight across in the Trunk, has to be at an angle, making it hard to load up luggage without pulling out the Driver and 3W. Meanwhile, easy as pie in the R2, or mine fit just perfect in the Front Trunk.
I sold a Mercedes for that exact reason. Used to drive me insane. At my test drive I asked the Rivian employee if I could do a test. They agreed but were a little confused until I pulled my clubs out to ensure fit in the rear cargo area. Didn't test the Front Trunk because I wouldn't keep mine there.
I mentioned this after my Demo Ride and was told to move the stalk all the way to lock it in. It has 2 positions. I didn’t think to ask why anyone would want the first step, on for, I believe 3 seconds.Took delivery of the R2 on Friday and could not be more excited. The R2 is awesome!
I absolutely love the way it drives. The ride is very smooth and it handles very nicely. The power and acceleration is legit and fun!
Love the interior and it is spacious. Getting used to the halo haptic wheels doesn’t take too long. They feel a little stiff, especially when pushing left or right but I think that can/will get dialed in with future software updates.
I have a few very minor nitpicks:
- The turn signal is loud, even though they apparently turned the volume down in the latest software update.
- I also don’t like the way the turn signal doesn’t really “lock in” to place and there’s no feeling to let you know if you’ve activated it fully or just engaged it to flash twice and quit.
- The lack of CarPlay is an adjustment. Obviously, I knew this going in, but this is the first vehicle I’ve had without it basically since it was introduced. Not a deal breaker by any means and I may even come to prefer not having it.
I can’t / won’t comment on efficiency yet because 1) way too small sample size and 2) I’ve been having fun with it. Plenty of full send moments going 0 to 50 or 60 or 70. Having fun testing the 60 to 80 passing on the highway. So yeah, I haven’t been trying to be efficient.
Oddly, my key fob didn’t come with the vehicle at delivery. They will be delivering it to me in about a week.
I tried autonomy+ a bit and it worked really nicely, including the lane changes. Although, the lane changes worked flawlessly during the day, but at night when I tried it again, nothing happened. Not sure if it had to do with it being night time, or just the stretch of highway I was on.m

I’ll be dropping it off soon to get the windows tinted, PPF on the full front and ceramic coating on the entire exterior.
I can’t wait for our first road trip in this thing.
The first step is for a simple lane change, it activates the signal for about three seconds and then shuts off. The second "step" keeps the blinker on until it either cancels from the wheel being turned significantly or you cancel it manually by pulling the stalk again. You'd use the second "step" if you were stopped at a light and wanted the blinker to remain on.
I feel like the main irritation with the turn signal tone isn't so much the volume, which they did address a bit, but rather that the fundamental frequency is so low compared to other vehicles, which they did not.
If you want that car, you buy a 2 year old CPO. Don't buy new unless you love massive depreciation. They are great cars and deals after the initial depreciation.
As someone with an X3 msport, I thought their semi adaptive suspension + B58 engine was the best crossover driving experience under 70k. I've had consistent occasional issues with carplay not working that required resetting or restarting. To me, the x5 just a lifted X3, there's not much more room inside from a cargo and rear seating view. I can't get a rear facing seat into either without forcing my wife to sit in the back. From a car seat perspective, the only larger luxury vehicles (2 or 3 row) start at a much higher price price (assuming you don't want a putrid 4 cylinder) over even the rivian performance. I have the perfect excuse for a Rivian
