Reviewers, in general, are in an out of so many vehicles constantly that the lack of CP/AA is probably far more obvious and more annoying. An actual owner of a vehicle will quickly learn the quirks of the built-in system and as long as it provides the needed functionality the majority of owners won't care. I think Hammoud made the comment that CP was great for rental cars and I 100% agree. You don't want to learn a new system while navigating an unfamiliar city...you just want something that works. It doesn't have to work really well and it doesn't have to look pretty, but it does need to be familiar. I personally drive 3 different cars on the regular and two of them have CP (one I installed aftermarket) and it make sit easier to bounce between them. Some manufacturers also have really awful infotainment systems to whit CP/AA actually are better...Rivian isn't really in that boat. The incessant reminders of lack of Carplay or physical buttons though is just played out, which is more of my gripe and he participates in as well.
TL;DR...reviewers are likely far more sensitive to the lack of CP/AA simply because they are bouncing between so many different cars all the time and don't have the time to learn the nuances of each built-in system. But there are prospective owners that feel strongly enough about CP/AA that they won't buy if it doesn't have it...one of my coworkers wants a Rivian but refuses to seriously consider one without AA.
