The incessant reminders of lack of Carplay or physical buttons though is just played out, which is more of my gripe and he participates in as well.
Reviewers, in general, are in an out of so many vehicles constantly that the lack of CP/AA is probably far more obvious and more annoying. An actual owner of a vehicle will quickly learn the quirks of the built-in system and as long as it provides the needed functionality the majority of owners won't care. I think Hammoud made the comment that CP was great for rental cars and I 100% agree. You don't want to learn a new system while navigating an unfamiliar city...you just want something that works. It doesn't have to work really well and it doesn't have to look pretty, but it does need to be familiar. I personally drive 3 different cars on the regular and two of them have CP (one I installed aftermarket) and it make sit easier to bounce between them. Some manufacturers also have really awful infotainment systems to whit CP/AA actually are better...Rivian isn't really in that boat.

TL;DR...reviewers are likely far more sensitive to the lack of CP/AA simply because they are bouncing between so many different cars all the time and don't have the time to learn the nuances of each built-in system. But there are prospective owners that feel strongly enough about CP/AA that they won't buy if it doesn't have it...one of my coworkers wants a Rivian but refuses to seriously consider one without AA.

DING DING DING!!!!!

It was a well-rounded discussion, which actually put the Rivian guys on the defensive a little. You could see them squirming a bit, which I loved. And I also like how Max threw it right back at Jason, telling him that his issues were "user error" :CWL:

Max is the man, we hung out in Texas and talked cars so much. He's a genuine car enthusiast

I would argue that Cammisa is closer to an American Chris Harris. But the actual Hagerty videos he makes (not the podcast) are some of the best car entertainment/review content available today and *very* well produced.
Hagerty is what made me click on this podcast (never listened to before). Alas, it was apples and watermelons!

It's like he has multiple personality disorder in the podcast: superlative praise one second, immediately followed by scathing criticism. Almost made me car sick. Throw in a bunch of repetition and swear words and it was grating enough to slice 'em watermelons!

Those Hagerty videos though, delectable enough to deserve a chef's kiss!

Refusing to consider buying any vehicle due to a lack of Carplay/AA is, frankly, a sad reminder of how pathetically absorbed many people are with their phones
I completely disconnect while driving. If someone needs me they can call. I don’t know why people want to be available for texting 24/7.

Just because we get used to it doesn't make it better. If all apps on phone were available on Rivian, I wouldn't complain. But that in no reality.

I adapted and started using Alexa for audio books and Amazon Music. Now Rivian wants to change that. I won't be updating if they kill Alexa.

One is a scripted and edited content. The other is live improv. He is a self-confessed overgrown kid and he made that clear repeatedly.

I find it so hard to watch shit like this... lasted about 30 seconds before turning it off.
I don’t know these guys much but I will say it felt sort of self indulgent. If you charted talking time it was 80% host (Jason?). His schtick is fine but there was just too much. I found myself eager for him to stop talking so the guys who actually designed the car could speak. I get that fans probably tune in for his bits but (for example) if we are going to hear about who drives what I’m much more interested in what the Rivian guys have/drive than what Jason has (and I assume regulars already knew that about him). I do appreciate asking challenging questions but 50% less bravado/“humor” and more real discussion would have been preferable IMO. Just my perspective.

On CP/AA - I don’t get the notion that car critics would want to be spared the vagaries of manufacturers’ interfaces / tech. For better or worse that is a big and growing part of auto design. Saying people in and out of lots of cars can’t be bothered to learn the tech would be like saying they only drove it with cruise control (or FSD) on. That said - totally agree about the rental car market. I don’t love CP but it does make the mediocre rental Camry in a strange city an easier to manage experience. But when I do that I’m trying to get to a business meeting not there to evaluate the car.
