I don't think there are grab handles, but I also think people who are worried about it should check these cars in person. Get in and out of the front/back seats to figure out whether that's ok or not.

There's no substitute besides testing it with the person you are worried about with ingress/egress.

From a post on FB, a rep at one of the Chicago block parties supposedly said there are no grab handles.

Hey guys, you won't believe this, but I don't think the R2 has grab handles.

I would definitely put A-pillar grab handles on the R1 if someone made them
They won't. That's where the airbags live.

How can they build the R2 with a 9 inch + ground clearance without grab handles to get in and out. This is a major safety concern, especially for older drivers.
I have the R1. The grab handles are way too small for my large hands. Might as well not have them like a Tesla.

To all the goofs who reply to posts with unnecessary snark and condescending replies just because someone made a simple observation that some folks may deem important. This being that the R2 does not having grab handles, you really should reconsider your irrational behavior—especially when it comes to belittling older generations.

My original post suggested that this type of off-roading vehicle should include grab handles when you are traversing a rugged backcountry trail with passengers in the front and rear seats. And yes, I know the driver has the steering wheel to hold them in place.

To clarify, if you go to the Rivian configurator, you can see for yourself that there are no grab handles. I was also told by Rivian today that "the R2 is designed without grab handles." And no, I am not a senior citizen who cannot get in and out of a vehicle. I am simply an astute shopper who wants to know everything prior to making a $60,000 purchase.

Aside from the obvious cost management, I think this speaks to how much "off-roading" a R2 is really capable of.

I floored the accelerator and the first thing my wife did was to grab the non existent grab handle. 😂 this is the only vehicle I’ve been in without one.

I will say that my wife, as a passenger, likes to use the grab handle in a number of our vehicles, not for getting in and out, but when I'm driving. Hmmmm .....

Is 9 inches a lot? Cx-9 has 8.8 and it's not an off-road vehicle.
Mazda certainly marketed it as having off-road capabilities.

And EVs have a "floor height" that is even higher for the same ground clearance because of the battery pack. It's why many EV makers market their station wagons or hatchbacks as "crossovers" or even full on "SUVs" when they have no more ground clearance than a wagon or hatchback - because the driver's seating position is more SUV-like thanks to the battery pack. (And many try to hide the extra thickness below the driver with dark plastic cladding, which also makes it look "more offroady.")

It wasn't designed for off-road when it launched in 2016. Our 2017 has terrible off-road ability, my AWD TL can do better. They improved it in next few years when everyone wanted to have an off-road vehicle/image, but never lifted the suspension. It also got an off-road mode, don't recall the name.

Battery pack height is usually the same as door sill height. There is a small difference as footwell is deeper, but the step over height is about the same.
