I’m so fckn stoked as long as what they told me on X was correct that I can still get it as a Launch Edition

I haven't gotten the official invite yet, but the configuration now lets you select the Borealis and Forest Green rather than having them greyed out. So I'm guessing as long as you place your order when your time comes and just select the delayed options, they'll consider it an LE with a longer delivery estimate. If you were to wait until August or September to order, maybe the LE sale would be done... who knows?

Someone else postulated that they may sell the LE until Lidar is ready, then swap the LE package for the Lidar hardware. Ie you could either be an early adopter and get "free" Autonomy+ etc or get Lidar if you wait.

I agree with you, but you will get hands off with the current set later this year so RAP1 doesn’t do much for you until at least 2028.

Yep, the reps I've talked to have echoed the sentiment in these threads that the current Gen 2.5 platform (R2 actually has slightly better compute than Gen 2 R1) has plenty of headroom and RAP1+LIDAR won't actually create any segmentation for several years. And in the meantime, the LIDAR data will be used to make the ground truth data better for all Rivian, regardless of generation.

I'm generally in the camp of "don't buy hardware based on promises of future software", though I admit I'm making an exception for the R2 in terms of UHF, pet mode, gear guard, etc, but those are short term and concrete enough I feel comfortable making that bet.

LIDAR-enabled L4 is the type of thing that could be promised up and down and never ship because they can't hit reliability goals, can't get regulatory approval, need to shift priorities to something else, etc. It's just too far away at this point to be worth deferring my order.

After seeing Black Crater in person, I'm going to wait for Coastal Cloud. I already have Borealis on the Quad so my wife is picking Launch Green

You definitely should be able to get the color combo you want depending on where you are in line. At first they were saying later in 2026, but August and September are just right around the corner.

I thought they only sold the R1 Launch Editions for 6-7 months, but it turns out it was for over a year. Of course it took them that long to sell 25K vehicles back then. I don’t think it’ll take that long this time. They might also phase out the R2 Launch Edition once the RAP1+LiDar becomes available.

Yeah I also just had Rivian reaffirm to me on IG I will be able to order a Borealis LE if I get pulled, I reserved at the end of the event in 2024 so I’d certainly hope i’m pulled by September

LE will be available close to EOY I imagine. Borealis is available in Sept, so no issues as long as you get pulled in.
