My latest chat with CS included a request to send out the Wall Charger prior to delivery. The CS rep couldn't give me any info of when they would ship the Charger. I told them that I have a March-April window for delivery and would like to install it prior to delivery. Unfortunately the rep was of no help. As part of my frustration, I included this message. I'm sure that they'll be pushing my delivery back to MARCH-APRIL 2024 after that comment. ?

You should be prepared for the likelihood that supply chain issues may not allow them to ship the charger prior to vehicle delivery. If you really want/need a home charger installed prior to delivery, your best bet would be to go ahead and install a non-Rivian branded unit and cancel your order for the Rivian wall charger.

Agreed. But if thats the case, that still should be communicated by Rivian ahead of time. A "hey, we realize getting it ready could take some people several weeks. We currently won't be able to provide the EVSE before delivery for most march/April deliveries. There are several other good ECSE on the market that should work great with the R1T."

In my research, the Rivian is the best value for a 48amp EVSE at $500. I have a Version 3 Tesla EVSE that was $500 but after purchasing a $170 Teslatap adapter to use it with my wife's e-tron, it becomes more expensive than the Rivian one.

This would make too much sense.

I don't disagree with the value proposition but that wasn't the point. The point was that you stated you wanted the charger prior to delivery of your vehicle which very likely may not happen. I don't know your situation and whether this is a want or a need. But if you feel it is a need, you may have to be prepared to spend more in order to have better control of the timing.

I think by now we all know what to expect in the way of communication from Rivian.

They should still get feedback that they aren't treating their customers well.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure I've seen an instance or two where employees had to go DC charge because they were waiting on their EVSE and didn't have a 220v outlet available.

More of a "Want" as I have a Tesla V3 EVSE as well as a Juicebox40. However, the JB40 will be getting moved to my Daughters house to Charge the Bolt that they're inheriting.

Exactly why I wrote that. If they're not reminded by their customers then they will continue to be poor in their communication. After all RJ even sent out an email stating that they suck and promised that they would improve.

If you have a March / April delivery window of this year, you shouldn't be chatting general CS. Talk to your Guide instead. My Guide was very clear to me that delivery is not dependent on the wall charger. It would be nice if they proactively communicated this though.

You do not need the charger to get the process started, all of the hard work are the wiring and permits.

One could simply get the electrician to take care of all of that taken care of and then install whatever charger you get when you get it. Makes it even easier because the installation documents are online for the Rivian branded charger.

*I* would be comfortable with that, but a lot of people will want an electrician to actually install the EVSE.

Many people simply don't feel comfortable working with wiring. Or are afraid they will damage something that they aren't familiar with.

Just poorly worded on my part. I meant have the electrician come back when the charger arrives to complete the job.
