“We demand an affordable EV. But it has to have this, this, this, this, this, and…”

Improvise and adapt? With time your legs will likely get stronger and you struggle less to push yourself in? You can also maybe grab steering wheel or seat to steady yourself? The car isn’t even out yet, who knows what else is possible? Why so quick to reach for pitchforks? If wife of jerryrigeverything, who is wheelchair-bound, could get herself and her wheelchair into a R1S without assistance. You can probably manage getting yourself into a R2.

Spend some time doing basic leg strengthening exercises. Probably more productive than feigning freak outs.

Two choices in life;

1. stay active, stretch, take care of your body.
2. Require mobility aids and buy a more adaptable vehicle.

Sounds like you’re in camp 2.
3. Spend 90% of your life in camp 1 and just age out. Dont be a jerk. There are a lot of active people (some of whom are in wheelchairs) who could get into or out of this vehicle if it just had a grab bar.

Not being a jerk. It’s the sad truth about what we class as normal in today’s world. Lots of people in their 80s stay fit healthy and highly active.

And it’s not like you are telling them to become a work class athlete. Just maintaining a basic standard of fitness and dexterity. But hey some people just don’t want to be helped and aren’t serious when asking for help. They just want to run up to strangers and unload... as if that’s acceptable.

Yes, they do. And i guarantee you ALL of those 80 somethings would want to have a grab bar in this vehicle. I hike 10 to 20 miles a week in my local mtn park. I run my dogs 10 miles a week in my neighborhood. So by your metric, I am in camp 1. I am 64 yrs old and my knees regularly swell up like balloons. Getting in and out of vehicles is a real chore when that happens. So grab bars would be really handy for this fit, active 64 yr old with a fair bit of arthritis. Implying that people who want grab bars are lazy and out of shape is where youre being a jerk

See above. So anybody with any kind of mobility issue did it to themselves by being fat and lazy? So asking for something thats standard in most vehickes is whining? Right...

Everyone can plainly see, word for word, that is not what I said. You are now free to talk at yourself. I do not have time to deal with your nonsense.

Anyone who can’t manage getting themselves into a car can either adapt and overcome it, or conclude this is not the right car and move on. Simple as that.

How can they build the R2 with a 9 inch + ground clearance without grab handles to get in and out. This is a major safety concern, especially for older drivers.
We do not install grab handles here. This is an issue you should take up directly with RIVIAN. But wait, the R2 does have grab handles. So, never mind.

The R2 is only 5 ft 7 inches tall. Even a short person can easily grab the top of the car if they need something to grab onto to get into the car.

Yeah! How dumb is it to expect grab handles in an adventure vehicle that is advertised doing this:

Rivian R1T R1S Grab Handles for R2 1774231179544-xx

Everybody knows that "air-grab handles" are just as effective and look a lot cooler when you are getting knocked around the cabin.

Its a nice to have on a vehicle like this but won't be a deal breaker for 99% of people.

There are grab handles above the doors on the R1T and R1S but they are basically useless to help you get into the vehicle. A little more useful to use when getting out. Running boards are fair more useful. What was a big miss on the R1 is grab handles on the A-pillar.

Man some of the R2 folks are acting like the sort of fanatics that ruined Teslarati. Not having grab handles (if it turns out to be true) is a legitimate concern. Suggesting the person who uses them should get in better shape or buy a different vehicle is a-hole territory. I am in perfectly good shape but I need the grab handles in my R1. I drive a guy to church and he has bad arthritis and uses a walker. He uses the handles to get in and out of my R1. A year ago I myself tore a ligament in my ankle and for 8 weeks needed those handles. Lots of us have friends and family who we also would like to be able to invite into our vehicle.
