Despite the update and app update - I cannot seem to figure out how to initiate the cold weather features listed in the update. Our weather included some pretty cold days in PA but no changes I can see in the app or in the vehicle.

Has anyone been able to enjoy this part of the update ? Am I missing something ? Is there a way to turn this on in settings ?

thanks in advance.

There is nothing for you to initiate. On the energy screen it will say if the range is impacted by the cold weather. Now it is warming up in PA that message has not been on for several days.

Freezing rain and ice yesterday causes no impact to range?

Not related to the update, but you can precondition by using the phone app to turn on the climate control system. Is that what you want or something else?

It's strictly in relation to battery temperature. Lower battery temperature causes some of the energy that's still in the pack to be unavailable. If you plug in every day and it's around or above freezing every day, you probably won't see this message because it's not happening. Especially if you have a scheduled precondition session because that intentionally heats the battery to a higher level.

It’s really more a visual signal of the range you are losing because of the cold. I’m in Central Pennsylvania, and I just did the screenshots a few seconds ago. In the app main screen, if you pull down, it might give you a notification that your range is affected by cold. If you go to the energy section on the app, it may show you the predicted amount of loss due to the cold as a blue bar. I’ll try and attach pics below.

I don’t find it to be particularly helpful, except hopefully it is actually reducing the expected range so that the expected range is more accurate.

Hmm ok thank you. Did not realize this. I garage and plug in every night. I do not precondition.

I would love to see immediate range impact of having the heat and stuff running too, but this update isn't doing that. It's just in relation to battery energy. I think Rivian could have done a better job of explaining it.

If you are parking in a garage every night (like I do), it needs to be very cold outside for the battery temp to be low enough for any messages to show up. My garage is insulated (not well, but I blame the 50-year old construction work with uneven bay sizes!) so it's usually 5 or so degrees warmer in the winter than outside temps. The battery is then a few degrees warmer than that.

thanks everyone for the explanations.
I really thought this update was going to show how the weather caused impact on efficiency while driving.

What I find disappointing about this update is that, like the OP, I have not seen any of this cold weather stuff displayed. I absolutely have a range impact from coldish weather. Maybe it’s not strictly less battery capacity per se, but definitely noticeably lower efficiency when temps are constantly below mid-40s Fahrenheit.
I know how to estimate what actual range might be or use the nav to accurately predict range, but it would be great if the car could tell my wife that the fuel gauge is not accurate right now since she can’t seem to hear me saying it.

YES! That is what I thought this was aiming for. Totally misunderstood that.
