It’s in the configurator… wonder how long it will last. I have to say that at that price it made me think about it (very briefly) but there are still too many issues for it to be tempting.

My only thought was "fire sale". They got a whole inventory of parts and need to clear them out.

There seems to be a market for a Tesla truck because a lot of people bought the CT. Why not take the lessons from the CT and make the necessary changes. I'd start with the design. Bring someone experienced in to do that. Not a lot of EV competitors for a "R2 sized" pickup at $59k.

They have to do something to drive sales as they have dropped significantly as the average person thinks it is just odd.

Looks aside, that is a lot of value for $60k. And quite honestly, some of the changes are actually for the better (ie coil over air suspension). If it weren't so polarizing, I'd say good job.

While I do think this would boost sales slight, I just hope they just retool the tech in the CT to make other more compelling choices. Tesla really needs to make a large EV that is not this. With the X and S gone, maybe now is the time to just mesh the tech of them and the cybertruck together into something people would buy. One can only hope...instead we get cybercab and optimus robots. Exciting times.

A very unpopular opinion but I do think, if they ever discontinue the Cybertruck, that people 20 years from now will really be interested in it and consider it a classic and ahead of its times. It is a very different vehicle than everything else out on the road. I think I prefer that over the super bland generic safe styling we are seeing from other mainstream brands. I totally get that a lot of people disagree, but just my opinion.

People collect all kinds of stupid shit just because it's old and they aren't making any more of them.

To this day....I still can't believe they actually made them...

I remember I actually watched the live presentation and when they drove the CT out, I was laughing because I thought Musk was trolling and they'd then drive out a nice looking pickup.

This was before he went full mental of course.

Quite a few people did buy the CT at first...... then sales dove off a cliff.

The main difference between this trim and other trims is the use of Elmer's School Glue to put the panels on, versus Gorilla Glue used in the other trims. There is an internal placard advising the owner to avoid car washes, and rainy days.

I love telling this story....

The day after the reveal, my wife and I drove across the state and picked up our first EV - a Model 3 Standard+. While we filled out the paperwork, the guy walking us thru said paperwork asked us if we had watched the reveal and after saying yes, asked what we thought of the truck.

We did out best to be polite about it - "It's..... unique" is what I think I said. Dude could see right thru me and said something like "Oh man, I'm not a fan". We then asked what the other employees at the store thought, and it was about a 50/50 split of "Not bad" and "It's terrible".

They should shutdown production and admit the failure, this was a design for a super niche crowd.
Only chance they have to salvage it would be to get rid of the SS faceted look and slap some new panels with curves and paint to make it more inviting.

Musk would never admit to his mistake.
