Front Left motor/drive failed abruptly. 2023 R1S quad

Driving normally, and gave a sudden jerk while stopping at a traffic light and dead.
Thinks I'm in water and front left motor is pre heated enough for baking.

This sucks, but at least the fault seems clear from the information the vehicle gave you. How much time did you have to stop / get to the shoulder?

2.5 hours waiting for a tow truck.
It fully bricked after restart..all black screens all around

You'd think with a complete motor failure on a four-motor vehicle it would stop sending power to the errant motor and run with the other three or even the pair on the other axle. This is a bizarre failure response by the Rivian OS.

The permanent magnet motors used by Rivian can't simply be turned off or 'free-wheeled'. The wheel will spin and, without supplied voltage, will become a generator.

We have yellow tow hook covers, running boards and is 2023 Glacier White R1S...

How many miles? Our's is just over 35K miles

Hopefully not.

This is the 2nd time. Happened to both front motors 4 weeks ago.

This is 2nd time same issue.

What???? Happened before to both front motors - wow. That really sucks.

Since this occurrence is also one front motor again, whatever they did, didn't completely address the issue.

Hope you get it resolved for good.

With some more digging apparently there is a clutch disconnect, but it's only for the rear motors. Fronts are always engaged with the quad. Hmm....
