Hi all,

Has anyone seen any aftermarket products to protect the rear windshield on an R1T from getting damaged or broken from skis on a ski rack over the truck bed? I would love to find a clear silicone rubber "bumper" strip, similar to what is sometimes used for sharp countertop edges or for wall protection from doorknobs, etc (see example image attached). I'd like it to be clear so that it minimizes obstruction of the view out the rear windshield, and roughly 4-5" tall X 40" wide to provide good protection from skis and boards. Ideally it would attach by a static film-type of adhesive that could be easily removed and then replaced as needed.

Anyone seen anything like this on the market? Or is anyone like EV Sportline, TWRAPS, Abstract Ocean, or other Rivian aftermarket vendors interested in developing this?? I'd be happy to share more about my idea if interested. I think it would be a great way to protect that expensive windshield from damage.

Thanks for any feedback!

Thanks, Iliya. This might work, but it's a bit thinner that what I was envisioning would be needed. Do you think it could keep the window from cracking if it got bonked from a ski tip?

Appreciate the reply.
To be honest, if you hit it hard with ski (or similar hard object) I don't think that will necessarily prevent cracking... basically this would be an extra layer of protection but not going to make things bullet proof. One other approach is to see if there are MOLLE panels or similar that can be installed there - steel barrier will surely protect a lot better, but will reduce visibility.

Guess I’m confused by the use case here. Is your concern that you might hit the glass while loading up skis/snowboards? I’ve hauled my skis around plenty without issue or worry. Of course just be careful when loading/unloading but once they’re locked in they’re not going anywhere.

We have a bunch of family visiting with a large group of tweens and teens and “careful” does not seem to be a concept in their universe. Hence the desire for a broader sense of security.

When I'm in this situation, I have the same concern, and I just tell everyone to leave their gear on the ground and I load the racks myself. I do tips facing back so they are not as close to the glass.

Yeah that sounds like a wise approach. Thanks.
