I've been thinking of trading my Rivian R1T for a Cadillac Lyriq or Optiq. Is that a bad idea? Maybe 9 service events are my limit. Cadillacs are so nice and the Lyriq has gotten great reviews from just about every reviewer.

Sounds like you don't need an off-road capable vehicle, so I would say yes, give the Optiq a try. My dad got one and is very happy!

If you are considering one of the Cadillacs, sounds like you don't need a truck. So go ahead look them over and other brands too. You are the one doing the driving so you should be happy with your vehicle. I don't have any experience with the Cadillacs you mention but I did lease a couple Volts years back. Had zero issues with either one.

My friend has an Optiq, too much bling for me but they are happy with it. It feels outdated compared to the R1s and it is a completely different experience. Just minor issues after a few months of ownership, similar to my experience after a year with the Rivian. Sorry to hear about all of your challenges.

R1T and Lyric fill totally different needs. So, figure out your needs. A couple friends love their Lyric. No significant issues. We looked at Lyric. It's a nice car. and would be a good midsize SUV if I needed one. No Frunk and not much room for stuff behind second row seats. My R1T gen 2 has had no issues ... it meets my needs.

Where do you live? Utah? A very real issue with GM is their service centers often only have one qualified EV tech. This means, depending on your area, you may have to drop your vehicle off and wait weeks for dozens vehicles to get repaired in front of you.

I live in LA, so there are a lot of EVs, but GM has very few actual EV techs to service them. Every new service appointment I schedule is basically a game of calling around to each dealer to determine the shortest wait time. I often drive by several dealers just to get to the one with the shortest line. Dealers won't hold your place in line, either. You have to leave your vehicle with them to get in line. It's a real problem.

I'm not sure I would go GM for my next EV purchase, which is a shame because I love my Sierra Denali EV.

I have the same read on legacy automakers with EV's. I've worked through warranty issues with Ford and Audi in the past, and they're not even in the same ballpark as Rivian in terms of handling issues. Hell, they might not even be on the same planet the difference is so large.

I have two friends, both with lyrics. The OG ones, fresh off the line, first in the Midwest. They love them. Software has gotten tons better, decent charging rates, Cadillac worthy interior.

One of them came from an ls460, so high praise indeed.

The software in the Cadillacs are the exact same UI and everything as the Chevy Equinox EV. The luxury elements were not impressive to me when I sat in them car shopping with someone. Definitely not enough to justify the cost. If you are cross shopping completely different vehicles anyway because you aren't optimizing for your particular needs, take a look at the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Sorry if this is harsh dude, but these threads you're making about your situation are low effort and mostly seem to be validation seeking. If you want to feel validation or recognition, a Cadillac surely will work for a bit. Wish you the best.

What's the question? You certainly don't need permission. It's your money. Lyric is not as big as it looks. They recently resolved that janky motorized charge port door, but it's very slow. The Vistiq is a very handsome SUV and some recent lease deals went a little viral, with a few claiming they were paying less than $200/mo (stacked with other offers).

Lyriq and R1S were on my short list as the I-Pace was recalled with a buy back.
In hindsight the only thing that had me favoring the Cadillac was the price. So glad to have the Rivian.

And as said above if the Cadillac works better for you by all means get it. Will certainly save money vs other options.

We own both. I have 2023 Gen 1 R1S and 2024 Lyric. They are very different experiences. I am highly biased to the Rivian. Better handling by far and a digital experience that is well executed and just works. It has its issues but overall still my favorite car in 45 years of owning cars. The Lyriq is rear wheel drive version and drives very well (better than Rivian in its annoying front wheel drive Conserve Mode, but nothing like the experience of a quad motor beast that is the Rivian fully expressing itself). The Lyriq is Cadillac comfy/cushy. Different feeling than the firmer feel of the Rivian. So the Cadillac is comfortable and is pleasant to drive. It’s Super Cruise is much better than Rivian’s Gen 2 lane keeper assist. But the Cadillac is disappointing in many ways. The audio system is bleak compared to Rivian’s early Meridian system in my R1S. Visibilty is severely hampered by the severely sloped tailgate and the substantial C pillars. The camera system is only ok - pretty lame by 2025 standards. The entire user interface is lousy and lacking logic as compared to the Rivian. I personally think Cadillacs suffers from the same issue as many of the legacy car makers trying to make EVs. They are bringing legacy integrations of buttons and screens that are pretty bad compared to the ground up Rivian logic. As for service, it is still not well understood at the dealerships. I even got a coupon from GM for a deal on an oil change! That said, it is a nice, but very different driving car. We like the Lyriq enough, but we won’t be getting another one!

We have an R1S Tri and a 2026 Sierra EV AT4 ER. We really liked our Sierra, but the software is crap compared to the Rivian so keep that in mind before you purchase. Need to take the Sierra in for the rear shock clunk and dreading the experience. We bought it in Denver because the Kansas City dealers don’t give a crap about EVā€˜s.
