Reading through the Motor Trend write up for the R1T and this jumped out to me. $0.43 a kilowatt-hour "pre-tax". That's basically $80 bucks just to fill up your Max Pack R1T with electrons. And the scary thing is that's where we're at now, let alone where we will be. Is anybody worried about this?

What's the highest price anyone has seen for charging stations?

Back in my Model S days I think the highest I ever was charged was $0.26.

Seriously we'll be seeing $100 fill ups not too long from now on our EV adventure trips.

Wouldn't the math be...0.43 x 135 kwh = $58.05?

Also consider a 10-90% charge and we get to ~$46. Seems ok to me for once in a while fast, not at-home charging...

@Seattleite I just remember my MKZ hybrid and driving from Chicago to Huston for less then $100 (1,000 miles).

This does kinda of bother me, seems like a bit of a gouge.

EA charges differ by state I believe, where in some states they charge by the minute and by the KWh delivered in others. Between that and the slow charging curve this would be expected.

Electrify Canada charges by the minute.

Edit : NM noticed this one is a /kWh charge.

Considering I just put $115 into my truck for 230 miles, I would still be ok. When charging exceeds diesel, then I’m out.

What's the most you know of someone paying to do one fill for a 95% (5-100%) charge?

Again $26 bucks for 275 miles in my Tesla cira 2015-2017.

Yep, my Sierra 3500HD loves to drink. Then add $5/gallon and it hurts. Worst part is, this wasn’t even towing!

Tesla rates have increased since 2017. I haven't supercharged in 2 years so can't tell you current prices (and also vary by state).

As far as Electrify America - the $0.43 rate is for non-Pass+ Members. If you are a Pass+ Members, the rate is $0.31 per kWh plus $4 per month. Charging once pays for itself - 180 kWh Ă— .31 = $55.80 + $4.00.

DC charging has never been cheap. With a 400 mile range, you should not need to DC charge very often.

Yeah, you are right. The $80 does not make sense even for /min charging. Wonder where the number came from.

Tesla has been subsidizing supercharging costs. Without getting into it, demand fees for am EA station can his like $30,000+ in a month in some areas just because all of chargers are used once simultaneously.

Get the Rivian membership. Assuming it's $50/month, it should pay for itself pretty quickly unless you never plan on fast charging.

I've read that if you have to pay to charge your electric vehicle, at a station, you probably won't be saving any money verse gas.

Also, I do not know if the electric price at the stations is a steady rate, or fluctuates with pricing (like Uber is more expensive during certain times of the day/surge pricing).
