i feel r2 should be priced lower than 45k for the base model
Average transaction for a new car towards end of 2024 was just a hair below $50k. $45k entry price for R2 is aligned with industry trends. So would $50k be for mid-trim and upper 50s (and beyond) for high-trim.

Per bmwusa.com '26 iX3 has starting price of "under $60k" and "up to 400 mi". That doesn't mean the 400 mi trim will start under $60k. OEMs typically tout lowest entry price (base) and highest performance (range) together. Highest performance never come at lowest price.

i feel r2 should be priced lower than 45k for the base model if it will have a smaller battery giving less than 300 miles of range. i can order a model y long range with their more premium interior for 45k, and 49k for dual motor awd. lower cost model y coming out tomorrow which i assume will start at 40k or less, which undercuts r2 even more.

if it costs more than 50k for the long range version, the bmw ix3 starting at less than 55k for 300 miles range is a compelling option with much faster charging and can upgrade to a 400 mile range option for a little less than 60k. ix3 also has a 4 ecu zonal architecture, proven build quality, supposedly good driving dynamics, and very good adas functionality.

i would be happy to buy r2 long range awd for around 50k.
I kind of doubt we'll see a single motor R2 any time soon. And it's still going to be a more upright seating position compared to the Y, which a lot of people prefer.

At this point I am fine without it. 'Hey Siri call wife' works really well. Other than that I happy with the navigation changes at this point.

No you can't. The long-range Model Y starts at $48,990. Check the website.

Yep, and it will have an even lower-quality interior than the current Y, which itself looks to be lower-quality than what R2 will have (based on members of this forum having observed R2 demo models in-person).

Well...just the numbers.

One of those companies is run by a fraudster CEO that grossly lies about product development (which encourages meme-stock antics), and the other one is Rivian.

(FYI, take a look at Ford's stock price. OMG, it's lower than Rivian's!!!)

The R2 is designed to target the same price & vehicle size segment as the Model Y. The high level prices, specs, and size are pretty comparable.

There's no such thing as a car that fits everyone's needs. Some people will cross shop the Y and R2. Not everyone will make the same decision.

Some people will consider the R2 that would never consider the Model Y. And the inverse will be true of other people.

I suspect they will both sell well.

We won't have a good idea of how the R2 really sells against the Model Y until R2 production is fully ramped and the lowest priced R2's are broadly available.

I am coming from a vehicle with CarPlay and I was worried I would miss it. Honestly, don't miss it one bit. The only thing that is maybe missing from the Rivian that I wish I had was the Apple Podcast app. However, I just play it from my phone and stream to the truck, its really not an issue.

I have also found I am less distracted by text messages now that I don't have them on the screen, like I did with CarPlay. It's a win if you ask me.

I am looking forward to the development done by Rivian to improve and build upon their current in vehicle experience.

The no CarPlay complainers are just noise IMHO, I won't listen to any of it.

they are only manufacturing the xdrive50 trim first, which is the large pack dual motor version with 400 miles of range, which is the trim specified starting at a little less than 60k. future standard range trim will be even less, around 55k

That is truly a wild thing to say.
oops i meant the tesla premium interior with vent seats, acoustic glass, more speakers, etc rather than the new stripped down version coming tomorrow. probably should have been more clear

Sure. The RAV4, CR-V, and Camry all sell more than the Y. This is 1H ‘25. Now that the credits are gone, we can guess what will happen.

The list is kind of depressing lol specially because we can't say the Model Y doesn't have any competition (Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Mach-E, ID4, etc), with it being the only EV of note showing up on the list (outside of the 3). Gas cars reign supreme state side! Woohoo. How exciting to see the status quo being maintained.
