Definitely no love lost for Tesla or Cybertruck from here. But any EV's discontinued ultimately hurts adoption for all of us. Recently heard Polestar is "in trouble", and just from casual viewing, am seeing more manufacturers pushing ads for "hybrids" and far fewer for EV's now. A lot of the usual FUD about "range anxiety", etc... 😞

Agreed - we all need R2 to hit the roads in numbers.

@Oldsmobile_Mike - I see from your avatar that you let your cat play with AI again :CWL: Looks good!

Thanks! My cats are out of control. This little one who came to us recently is either trying to be enormously fat, or she's eating for eight. I did not think my nice garage would become a shelter for stray cats, but here we are.

Good for you - she looks like she could put on a couple pounds so you're doing the right thing.

And from Master Plan 4, maybe an alternative path being explored:

I noticed that too. Reminds me of the last 4 decades, where the US manufacturers would pivot to more fuel-efficient vehicles because "gas prices are out of control", then back to very large trucks & SUVs because "gas prices have dropped", back to smaller SUVs/Crossovers and "light" trucks, back to even larger-than-before SUVs and trucks (with 8L v8s)...

Consumer behavior is partly to blame also. When it comes to lessons of the past, we have a learning disability. I mean, look at us, large EVs when most of us can probably do just fine with something smaller.

I probably carry seven adults in my R1S once every 2-3 months - and am very grateful for the room because it means we can take one vehicle instead of two. If the 5-seater R2 had come out first we would have jumped on it because, like you said, we would be fine with something smaller, but I'm really loving the additional space in the R1S for things like moving my girls to college or for dragging all of the crap I want to take tailgating!

This may indicate how little faith Tesla has in CT at this point.

While the company would surely get some incremental sales from a base $70K model, it is apparently sitting on substantial inventory of unsold AWD CT and they must sense the public enthusiasm has fallen off the cliff.

I remember decades ago when Chrysler released the PT Cruiser and dealers were getting thousands over sticker for several months—then nearly as suddenly, demand dried up and dealers were discounting the models on their lots.

It is important to never mistake immediate demand with durable demand. While the Tesla Bros are loud their sound level overstates their numbers or influence. For the most part, everyone who wants a CT has one. The demand has been met—there may be some who aspire to own one but can’t justify the hit to their personal budget. Those were the potential customers of the $70K model now axed.

Otherwise, Tesla will be selling off its inventory of CT built months ago for a long time, including Foundation series CT being sold as regular CT.

I'm the opposite - can count on one hand with a few fingers leftover the number of times I've had humans in the back seat of my R1T. A Rivian more akin to the size of my old Chevy Colorado (with the half-doors and jumpseats, and small toolboxes in the back), would be perfect:

And also the fact that this truck had a "proper" 6' bed... I miss that. 😢

Don't say it often enough, but this is why I'm a big supporter of having lots of options for vehicles. And I think what RJ has alluded to in several videos: having more consumer choice. No one shape or size will suit all people. I mean, I'm sure somewhere there's a person even the CT is perfect size for! 😉

That’s why I’m rooting for Slate and TELO, and whatever Ford has up its sleeve. A light p/u is an ideal use case for EVs as heavy towing isn’t a usual requirement, and the efficiency of short haul, point to point driving is perfect for an EV. I’m thinking of parts trucks and delivery trucks, and workers/handymen going from job site to job site.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Not that I’m in the market to buy an $70K EV pickup truck, but they stripped too many things off of the RWD version and it was still too expensive. Remember the original single-motor RWD version was supposed to be $40K!!!

Yup, goes back to a discussion in the “RAM EV is dead” thread. Fat, drunk and ICE is no way to go through life, son.
