Even at their shop, they can still bugger it. It's been a busy week, so I haven't had a chance to bring it back in, but I'll be going by Monday to ask why it sounds like there's a hole in my dash.

Honestly, it's just the bottom passenger corner that sounds like the sealant is missing. No crazy wind noise or buffering, just like a window is cracked open.
Yikes, I hope they sort it out for you!

Well, just had my front windshield replaced by Safelite the other day. No issues with installation (for now), seems they did a good job (Safelite in Bellevue, WA), but I made the mistake of driving off to Costco, popping the front hood/frunk, and it refused to close citing object in the way; I assume camera/sensor is what needs recalibrating.

I panicked for about 10 minutes (I was stuck at the Costco parking lot, and late to pick up my kid from school) trying to close the hood, and each time it would stop at 1/2 way point, before I basically just manually forced it down as it was going through the closure motion (I was not able to force it down when it was fully opened up).

So I guess I don't get to use the frunk until the recalibration service appointment---in September :(

Odd that it would use the windshield camera to detect trunk obstructions - wouldn’t the trunk hood itself block the camera?

I had this happen after Rivian replaced mine last year. Check the rubber seals near the frunk corners by the windshield, my driver side one was loose and moving when the frunk was opened. Has nothing to do with the camera. Rivian reused the old clips for that seal and it was loose for that reason.

Just got back from Safelite in St. James, NY. As they were prepping the replacement glass, they discovered that the clip that holds one of the cameras was defective and they had to pick up a new windshield from the warehouse. They asked if I would prefer to wait or reschedule for another day. I said since I was already there and had set the day aside for this, I would go ahead and wait. It added another 50 minutes to the 2 hour appointment window but aside from that, everything else went without a hitch. The ADAS didn't complain about needing a recalibration and everything seems to be working fine. I didn't notice any wind noise or anything of the sort on local roads but I'll test that and Driver+ highway assist later this week after I give it some time to properly cure and settle. Alignment is perfect, but so was my factory windshield.

The Safelite team was friendly, respectful, and kept me informed of everything before, during, and after the procedure. Everyone I saw there seemed to be in good spirits and enjoyed the work they were doing. I watched them perform a few installs while I was waiting and each one appeared to be done professionally.

For anyone in the NYC/LI area in need of glass, I recommend these guys as an option to consider.

I'll put in a request for a Rivian SC camera recalibration in Brooklyn, but I know they're pretty backed up so I'm not holding my breath for that being done quickly.

EDIT: Looks like Brooklyn SC isn't as backed up as it used to be - I can get in as early as mid next week.

At this point I'd get a windshield film to protect it.

Just got a chip while driving today. Didn't see anything but heard what I thought was my plastic water bottle popping, until my wife noticed the new crack. Just so happens I have a SC appointment next week. Do I just add this on to the request or is this not something they would do there (assuming it doesn't need to be replaced)?
Sorry for the bad pic - I just snagged it while driving and forgot to take a better one when I stopped. I'll add a better one later.

If you go to safelite before it spiders they can fix that. Probably free or $75 compared to $1800....

OEM out of pocket was over $2k because Rivian repair shop wasn’t in the approved list.
Safelite did a superb Job ! Only paid $500 deductible. Then I had it calibrated for $65 at the Rivian shop

I just did a repair of a similar crack through Safelite. ~$175 IIRC. Still way better than a replacement though.

Thanks. Although I doubt anyone is doing anything for free 😂
I also had asked the SC after posting and they said they could only replace, not repair, so seems like my decision is pretty easy.
Question now is should I get a protective film going forward, and if so what's recommended? Is tgat something the SC does or better going elsewhere? If it matters I'm in Rockland County, NY.

The only reason I said free is I have progressive and chip repair is free with my plan because I have glass coverage.

No out of pocket with State Farm for my R1T at Safelite. Call your agent or read your policy to see if you have this benefit. Best of luck.
