I'm debating on upgrading my leased 2023 R1T Dual Max to a leased 2026 R1T Dual Max before September 30th. Although the 2026 models will have a NACS charge port, I've read non Telsa's with NACS charge port will still not charge at V1 & V2 Superchargers which WY has a lot of, especially around Jackson, WY. Apparently, V1 & V2 Superchargers use a Tesla proprietary protocol, that only Tesla software supports. Jackson, WY really needs some 250 - 350kv chargers. But WY politics makes it difficult to install chargers in the state. So I keep my 2025 Model Y around.

As for the rest of the Rivian improvements, the 2026 R1T has much better cameras and tech that will support FSD in the future. I only have 10,500 miles on my 2023, so it's kinda hard to depart. I don't know if the DCFC charging speeds improve much from 2023 to 2026 since I think the battery packs are the same. But I'm sure someone will post something about charging speeds once someone gets a 2026 Rivian Max Pack.

I wouldn’t get a 2026 for the possible FSD. That’s a while away. Rivian has way more to focus on in the interim.

10k miles in 3 years means you do not drive it a ton. So, any new features will not make a real difference. Maybe the better cameras for maneuvering.

If you drove it a ton, maybe it would be something to consider. Otherwise, hold on to the ‘23 and see how it things shake out.

Agree with above. Don't buy any car on FSD promises, Tesla taught us that one a long time ago.

If you're going to make the switch do it for the extra refinement, better lights and cameras, etc.

You can still access all the same DCFC you're using now with the appropriate adapter as I understand it.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
You are absolutely correct that the V1/V2 will be incompatible. I hope most realize this before we start to see confusion.

The Gen2 has significantly better cameras, better overall build quality, hands-free (and soon eyes-off, apparently), the headlights are magical and fun, and the auto-opacity on the roof is a game changer for my wife.

I miss my G1 quad, though, because it was savagely fast and I have the Meridian audio, and large-to-large, got better range. The Gen2 is much more efficient on a mi/kWh basis, though.

Basically the same vehicle. Unless your lease is up, it's probably not enough difference to warrant the change

If Rivian will let you out of your current least that has about a year on it...I'd say do it as you'll need another vehicle at the end of the lease.

As you mentioned the Tesla v1 and v2 chargers aren't compatible with non-Tesla's, so the charge port change won't really be much of an improvement as an adapter will still need to be carried about.

I often play the mental "If I were to get a new Rivian today, what would I get game?" For me, it'd likely be a Dual Max with standard wheels as there'd be a much larger range compared to my Gen 1 Large with ATs tires. The added light functionality and better cameras would also be nice, but otherwise, they are essentially the same vehicle.

Yes, Rivian will let me out of my lease. I am a bit of a tech nerd. I bought my wife a 2021, 2023 (better suspension), 2024 (New Red Paint) & 2025 (I wrecked her 2024) Model Y. She only has 2,500 miles on it since Nov. I actually bought this 2023 R1T in May 2024 because my Benz was going to need $8k worth of turbo charger work. That's why the low milage. I also baby the battery, never more than 70-75% unless I'm on a trip, but never above 90% on trips.

Lease isn't up until May 2027. I have the Tesla adapter bag with like 7 adapters I use with my Rivian and Tesla. I installed $2,400 Rock Sliders on my R1T so my wife and I can get into the truck. Were both retired seniors and the 22" step up in kneel mode was a challenge. With the Rock Sliders, the step is only about 12". The dogs also had difficulty jump up w/o the Rock Sliders. I got the Rock Sliders vs Running Boards so I wouldn't have to cut into the plastic covers. Rivian said I could leave the Rock Sliders on my truck if I do a trade-in.

I do have a neighbor who is interested in buying my R1T. I think all I'd have to do is buy the lease out, then sell him the truck. I only did the lease to get the Fed and State Tax Credits. Since the Fed Tax credit is going away end of September, that's weighing on my mind to just go ahead and get a 2026.

Yes, you should be able to buy out the lease and then turn around and sell. Keep in mind it may be a few weeks before you receive the title once the lease is paid off…which you’ll need to effect your sale.

June 15th traded in my 2024 Dual Max I leased in Dec of 2023 for a Dual Max Performance Gen2, same color, but with offroad package with 20" wheels, premium sound and monochromatic roof, tonnau cover.
I use my truck for work, miles are biz expense, etc. It had 66K miles on it when I traded it in. I guess it was out of warranty at 60K miles, not sure how warranties work with leases. I used all of June's Rivian incentive offers to minimize the trade in loss with the new lease.
The old truck was pretty worn, with some minor dents here and there, suspension was knocking around and it was scheduled for a service appointment, but I didnt want to be without it for 1 week plus. I put the old worn out tires when turning it in. Battery was still pumping out like new, even though I would charge at home level 2 to 100% 3 or 4 times a week. Interior held up great! No obvious wear and it handled stacking cases of equipment in and out fairly often.
The new Gen 2 I have noticed the difference. The Performance upgrade does feel like an upgrade. The cameras are so crisp and smooth. The heat pump I guess helps with efficiency, but unnoticeable in AC performance. The monochromatic roof is great to take some of the sun off. The autonomy driving assist is notably better. I use the new light bar indicators. I have noticed the new truck with the 20" wheels having good efficiency. Perhaps it's the new Energy app helping me stay disciplined with consistent low speeds (67-72mph). I do have a spare set of 21" with Michilins that did great in wear and handling, so hopefully my KW/M will be 2.5+ once I pop those on. I noticed the sound system is a downgrade. I was expecting it but still a bummer since the Gen 1.5 sounded great imho. The response of the screen and interface is noticeably faster. I like the new frunk, it works better for my storage needs. I miss the chiliwich headliner material.
I just clocked in at 2673 miles and so far I'm glad I did it.
