I thought I read that the 1025hp is only available in launch. Maybe that’s a hallucination, but if that’s true then G2 is really no better at all in real world use.
Does any improvement over 3.3 second 0-60 really matter in real world use? Unless you *REGULARLY* drive trails in which tank turn is both allowed and needed, I don't see G2 Quad as having *ANY* "real world use" improvements.

Ridiculously overpriced IMO. Not nearly enough improvement to justify nearly 2x the price for Gen1 Quad owners especially early owners who got the initially pricing. There isn’t much of a demand or need for ~140k EVs….they really need to be laser focused on R2 and R3 and staying on price-point if they expect to stay in business.

This!

Pricing is way off the mark. They will sell a bunch to enthusiasts, but then what?

Good news is G1 Quads are going to hold their value like never before. :)

All this talk about 1/4 mile times is just crazy talk, we are at the point where for normal practicality it doesn't matter in these types of vehicles. If you are really buying one over the other for a tenth of a second you are an idiot. Just buy a real sports sedan/car if track time is that important to you.

LOL.

What if you want the fastest off-road capable SUV on the planet? Why does that make you an idiot?

I think it is cool. Like a Lamborghini is cool. Not worth it to me, but to someone it definitely is. And I don't think they are idiots. They just have different priorities.

What I mean is if you like the Rivian but because the Lucid is a tenth faster you no longer think the Rivian is good is just dumb. Buy the vehicle you like, the one that fits your needs and not based on 1/4 mile times which I'm sure if you are the type buying it based on stats alone probably don't know how to make the best use of anyways.

The New QUAD is a halo car, plain and simple. Hopefully it will generate more interest in the brand and sales of all Rivian models. 🤞

I'd be all over a 10.5 drag car that also gets me to remote campsites, hauls drywall, tows my dump trailer and costs less to fuel and maintain than the best Toyota if I could just swing the $2k/mo. payment. Over the decades, I've probably dumped close to $75k into my 20th anniversary trans am and doesn't do any of this.

There's only so much you can do when you need this kind of power to put up the times Rivian does. This truck is extremely heavy and as such needs the HP to put up a 10.5 second 1/4. It doesn't surprise me that you can't get that full power without being in launch mode. People are crashing these enough as it is, and that problem would be much worse if Rivian just gave everyone that power all the time.

The Tri is the better buy IMO.

I mean, I agree that NO ONE needs any of these, and there's no merit (at least on my end) given the price points and breakdown to trade a Gen1 for a Gen2 Quad.

But I will push back (I keep seeing the Tri-as-plenty argument) insofar as the Tri to Quad delta is about $6k last I saw. And you get all the accessories and upgrades and blackout package and lifetime Connect+ and Driving capabilities in the Quad.

So, honestly if anyone's in the market for anything > Dual, I think it's kinda silly (unless you REALLY need the extra ~35 miles of range) to go for the Tri over the Quad...

Just my .02. But if you're spending ~$115 already, just spend $120k *unless that's going to actually break your budget anyway.*

Maybe, but the thing I like most about my tri is the power bias to the rear. It makes the driving experience feel more fun. The quad is crazy fast in launch mode, but outside of it the consensus so far is it feels like the gen 1. The gen 1 felt slower than my wife’s BMW because that has a heavy rear power bias. The tri feels faster.

Specs mean very little to me past a certain point, but the driving feel means everything. So in my personal use case I’d be spending more on something I liked less. Doesn’t make sense to me.

If I pay $120k for a 1000-hp truck or SUV, I don't want that power to be limited to just certain mode. In other words, the choice of when to access that power should be mine thus it is an easy pass for me for Gen 2 R1S Quad versus my current Gen 1 R1S Quad.

Why would you buy a Tri for almost the same money as a quad? If you like rear wheel bias, adjust it in the RAD tuner and dial it in how you like it.

Assuming that works the way you're thinking it does. Also the quad version of my tri is 10k over what I paid. Why would I pay an extra 10K just to turn the power down in front?

The only thing the gen 2 quad feels like gen 1 is the 4 motors. My tri is only 7 months old and driven 5K miles but if Rivian gives me a favorable trade in number, I'd trade up to the quad in a heartbeat. I'd do it for $25K difference.

Retail on the tri would be 20% off msrp. Trade in less. Unfortunately you’d be looking at a $35-40k delta.
