Couldn't agree more. What an underwhelming launch. Is there a reason one would choose a new Quad over a Tri?
It is a halo/low-volume product whose primary purpose is to make the Tri pricing seem reasonable/more affordable. They released it in 2 color combos because they aren't expecting many buyers . . . you are supposed to buy the Tri rather than the dual. . . not the quad rather than the tri (although they'll take your $$$).

Reading the specs as owner of OG Quad… What is striking to me is, twice, my 2 yro truck has been made outdated. Those who constantly complain that Rivian hasn’t done enough to move forward is too focused on a single blade of grass and missing the entire forest.

Also, dark ATs… 🤤
I wouldn't really say small upgrades makes your Gen 1 outdated. Overall the Gen1 Quad still has 85% of the performance, features, range, ect as the new Gen 2 Quad. Personally I wouldnt call the Gen 1s outdated until Rivian pushes a full refresh with a new exterior/interior design. Currently no average person can tell the difference between Gen1 or Gen2 Quad.

Interesting that the numbers claimed are showing the quad to be more efficient than the tri in Combined modes (ie their blended AP/Conserve numbers used for marketing) , and less in conserve. The only way I can rationalize this is a more efficient inverter on the rears than the tri has?

I have read all of this new quad motor release information with great interest. The price increase is significant. At $50,000 above the original quad motor release, it doesn't seem to provide sufficient value. At these prices, Rivian has become a niche vehicle.

I just hope that Rivian can survive until the release of the R2.

big disappointment. especially after I watched a youtube video where the gen2 quad without using launch control got beat in a drag race by the gen1 quad 2 separate times. also got beat in the Hagerty video by the lucid gravity dream edition. I just cant believe they did not give it biger fender flares, bigger brakes, or anything to make is feel more special. also feel silly that I lent them $3k for the last year for absolutely nothing.
Got a link to that video? Media embargo was just lifted, so I'm curious where/when you saw that?

Nevermind. Found it. Dropped an hour ago, I'm clearly behind :D

this, 100%. I love Rivian but their marketing / sales teams really need some attention.

I'm also disappointed that there isn't a signal new features (aside from NACS and gimmicky kick turn) that was announced today, which wasn't announced a year ago.
NACS, Kick Turn, Rad Tuner, Launch Cam, Launch Green, Dune wheels, Bronze wheels, Included underbody shield. Not a ton due to all the leaks/updates, but there was a good number of surprises.

By outdate I don’t mean obsolete. Performance-wise the OG still far exceed what anyone needs on a daily basis. What I mean to highlight is the astonishing pace of progress since first deliveries began.

You’re all missing the biggest thing: in-house motors and what that means for future support/replacement. Moving forward Rivian needs Bosch even less. Uncertainty hangs for those us who helped Rivian get to where it is this day.

Respectfully, aside from NACS, the others are cute but rarely used gimmicks. And launch green isn't a feature, it's a limitation... why can't people choose the color they want?? And why don't reservation holders get anything for standing in line for a year?? Anyone can order (these two colors) starting today.

Also not clear... is this a 2026 model and are other models also 2026 starting today??

I was right on with the $120-125k starting price.

Totally unnecessary spec.

Respectfully, so is NACS. There is no logical reason to switch. We'll need an adapter or the coming decade anyway, and the overall power throughput of NACS is less than CCS. IMO this is another "because Tesla does it, it must be better" feature change.

You shifted your claim to there was no surprise features at launch to there was no major changes. Well of course there wasnt and I dont believe anyone expected any. The Quad is still built on the Gen2 platform. I thought that it was pretty well understood by everyone that the only real change between a Dual/Tri/Quad is performance, with a handful of small gimmicky features. This isnt any different than the Gen 1 dual/quads.
