I'm going to be traveling for 3 months and will have my 2023 R1T safely parked in our building's underground garage. Just wanted to ask what 3 months of inactivity for the vehicle might look like.

Specifically, what charging percentage makes sense for the vehicle to just top up? Will definitely be leaving it plugged in the whole time.

Also just as importantly should I be worried about tires flattening? Especially with such a heavy vehicle I'm wondering if I should get friends to drop by once a month to take the truck out for short trips just so the tires aren't just sitting in the same position for the whole time. And keeping them at standard 48 PSI should be good?

Would appreciate any guidance or support!

There is a shipping/transport mode for Rivians. If you have access to a plug, keep it plugged in and set the SOC to 50%. If not, charge to 85% and have someone come and drive it at least once a month and charge it back up to 85%.

As for tires, if it's driven once a month, not a big deal. If sitting for 3 months, inflate to tire max cold pressure (e.g., 51 psi), and check upon return.

Sounds like you're in shared underground parking so probably don't have a plug and even if you did, there's always a chance of someone unplugging it for their use and not plug it back in (I realize you can check via app to see if its plugged in) so the best is to have someone attend to the vehicle on a regular basis.

Good luck.

I would drive it until it’s almost dead, set the max charge level to 50%, and leave it plugged into the level 1 charger while you are gone.

I'd charge it to 100%, put a battery tender on the 12v and park it in a place where you can get cell signal so it can be monitored and to keep up to date on updates otherwise if you miss an update cycle you'll need to have them repush all the missed updates. An L1 charger for the HV might be a good idea also.

Without a battery tender you are likely to return to a bricked truck after 90 days.

I would deliver the truck to me so I can keep it exercised for you. You don't want the motors to atrophy.

12v is what I would be most worried about. I would personally either put a battery tender on it and put it in shipping mode, or plug in your level 1 charger and set it to 70% like normal. The level 1 will allow the 12v to top off whenever it needs it. I would NOT put it in shipping mode unless you have a 12v battery tender.

It will do its regular 12v charge/discharge cycles, using the HV battery. If it’s plugged into the level 1 and set to a 50 or 60% max charge, it will trickle charge back up as needed.

The downside with the 12v tender idea is some people aren’t comfortable hooking one up on a Rivian.

It will only do this if it is NOT in shipping mode, hence the need for a 12v tender while in shipping mode for that long.

Check your manual, that’s what I did. I’m on an extended vacation also. If anything bad happens, it’s Rivian’s responsibility. You did exactly what they recommended.
