The NHTSA says otherwise. Argue with them if you feel the imformation is wrong.

I’m not arguing NHTSA data or math you presented. I’m arguing the situation of the vehicle making a left turn at a seemingly perpendicular intersection between the road and the railroad tracks at the speeds that have been discussed.

I am speculating that the car would have had to turn at much slower than 20 mph and the reaction to hit the brakes could have been initiated mid turn.

Everyone on both sides of this argument is just speculating at this point. Let’s wait for the data to come out.

Yeah, that would be cool except Tesla doesn't release real "data" for FSD or Autopilot. Convenient, huh?

Pair the referenced incident with this video. This seems to be a common issue

Yup. Shit like this is why responsible manufacturers who are using self driving on non freeway streets are using radar/lidar in addition to vision. Lidar would detect this obstacle ahead and not try to drive through it. Vision didn’t recognize it as a hazard, and this is what you get. Terrifying how much vision only systems are relying on the processing and recognition of images to keep the driver safe instead of actual object detection like Waymo does.

From the photos (telephone poles/trees visible in background to indicate which direction the car turned) and Google Maps, the probable scenario is that the car was headed southeast (top to bottom) and FSD turned left. It's not a 90 degree turn, more like 35 - 45 degrees, so the speed could have easily been 20 mph and not even considered a "turn" by FSD. It seems less likely that FSD would have made a mistake by turning 135 degrees.

The data is that the car turned onto railroad tracks.
Everything else is speculation.

Yet another example that illustrates why driving isn't always so straightforward and why FSD isn't ready for prime time. With this satellite view it is easy to see how FSD could have made this mistake, but the probablity of humans doing so being extremely low.

happened to be driving an old Model 3 and let it drive quite a ways before calmly getting out and taking their stuff? Seems like a short seller stunt.

With passengers in the car as witnesses to the scam. Right.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I once saw a person turn onto the light rail tracks in San Jose in their Acura MDX. Bounced around HARD until coming to a stop 50' or so later. Was absolutely wild to watch. No FSD required.

Unfortunately, people can be super dumb, with or without tech assistance.

Your excuse is even worse than the dismissive "it was HW3" excuse...

And people want Rivian to license FSD from Tesla.... I wasn't thrilled with it when I had it, not saying Rivian is better but I just don't trust it right now.
