It appears the NACS will be the charging port on all 2026 vehicles.

So, anyone getting 2026 have to buy CCS1 to NACS adapter? Or will Rivian provide it as a part of the vehicle delivery?

Is RAN terminals being modified to have both or change to NACS?

Rivian.com press release

Specifically, this part:

1000022170.jpg
Highlighted in yellow simply says that future Rivians will come with NACS. The question is now that, that is happening with 2026 model year vehicles, what is Rivian doing about CCS1 RAN terminals and CCS1 to NACS adaptors, given that the new vehicles will have native J3400 port.

I read that different as future RAN hardware update will have native J3400 support.

For us G1/G2 R1 owners should not really matter as we can use CCS now and already have the J3400 to CCS adapter when they change.

The paragraph overall is referring to the charging pedestal. The highlighted sentence refers to a future hardware charge to the pedestal.

Such a stupid transition.

Put me on this bandwagon as well.

Of all the things to make a deal of; what connector it uses is like 483rd on the list of important stuff I consider.

If I had to place a bet, I'd guess that RAN will eventually have their version of the Tesla magic dock. That would be the cheapest way to solve it.

Adapters will be necessary for the short term. Probably as a ~$200 accessory.

The cheapest way to handle it is to switch to NACS and not provide any adapters or magic doc like modifications. Let the driver be responsible for getting what they need to charge their vehicles. Personal responsibility. What a concept.

Adapters are a fact of life for the foreseeable future. Even if I had a NACS vehicle, and charged regularly at Tesla SC, I would still want a CCS1 adapter. We still have ChaDEMO plugs out there.

Now that Rivian apparently has joined the club of the fast-charging pickpockets, it won't matter much for me what Rivian does, or does not do, but charging my Gen 1 Rivian at Tesla with free adapter is a breeze; surely, it will be the same if RANs go NACS.
