Has it ever become known whether one of R1* were involved in a fatal crash? What I mean is, a occupant whether the driver or passenger of a R1* was clobbered in a crash?

We've all seen the after effects of our vehicles in a crash but everyone has always been well protected.

I'm aware of the Arizona case that @Donald Stanfield cites, and I'm not aware of any others. Apparently the young man was speeding in tight turns, breached the guardrail, and rolled several hundred feet down a steep canyon wall.

I don't trust AI programs on this, but (like @JM.) I'm not aware of any other crash-related Rivian occupant fatalities, ever.

Not really easy data to come across unless you are in the insurance business. Not something many people would post online about in respect to the victims.

I tried searching old insurance auctions for biohazard Rivians but the history databases don't have a Rivian filter yet.

I came from a 2002 Silverado 2500HD. And I know from a firefighter friend that they are not the most safe/survivable.

Like the folks on the CT forum who are busy coping and justifying their purchases, I believe I made the best decision for my little family and I.

Teslas are some of the safest vehicles on the road as rated by NHTSA and the IIHS in Europe. The reason you don’t hear about Rivian crashes all that frequently is because there aren’t that many of them on the road (10s of thousands of Rivians vs. millions of Teslas). Rivians still get into accidents and they will get into even more accidents the more popular they become. It’s simply a statistics thing.

Ah, that’s right. I read an article like that a while back. They think the contributing factors are driver behavior, driving conditions, and autopilot giving drivers a false sense of security. It doesn’t help that some Teslas can go 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Nobody really needs that unless you’re at the track. EV makers need to focus on range and charging infrastructure if they want to get more Americans to adopt.

;-) Well thankfully no one was injured, but re: Silverado vs Rivian, here is a pic of the Silverado that rear-ended my stopped R1T at 45 mph… and the damage pic of my truck (although sadly it was totaled). Give me a Rivian for my family any day!

There are different ways to engineer vehicles toward this goal: That the vehicle will, if needed, sacrifice its own life to save ours.

Some vehicles have extravagant and obvious "crumple zones." These save lives.

Rivian's crash survivability technology is much less obvious, but seems to be at least equally effective.

Rivians are easily totaled, but I'm pleased that Rivian occupant fatalities are nearly non-existent.
