Why is everyone so appalled by this? It’s a competitive rate and coincides with RAN charging being open to all EV’s. I accept it and frankly I feel lucky to have gotten the cheaper rates when I did.

Perhaps Rivian should start a charging plan like Tesla and EA. Monthly fee, cancel anytime for a better rate. I use Tesla's plan for long road trips. At least a $0.10/kWh discount.

Do you want the company to be profitable or not? Compared to other networks 50s is not even highest reported in this forum. This price point has been the norm for at least 3 years.

New business using introductory pricing at opening, then adjust as customer base grows and to meet profitability goals. This happens all the time even at your grocery store with new products. Nothing to be shocked by.

Very soon more people will understand that for road trips the best car is ICE...
A brief glance at history of oil prices say your prediction is faulty. Prices at the pumps have already gone up, so has prices for everything related to oil. And it isn't the first time. https://electrek.co/2025/02/14/big-...-it-bought-is-raising-its-costs-with-tariffs/

Covered in another thread, it's called market pricing. Why should Rivian subsidize your road trip? EA, Tesla, and the rest aren't doing so.
They shouldn’t but at least where I live, RAN has the highest rates. Driving down I-5 in California, RAN is more expensive than EA or Tesla and that’s before any membership discounts. There aren’t enough RAN stations for a subscription to work so I don’t see why anyone would ever charge there again.

Reliability, availability, ease of access... You know, market-based reasons.

But they’re less or no more reliable than Superchargers, less available, in worse spots than EA, and more expensive. None of your reasons make sense. At least on my road trips on the West Coast, the legacy networks are everywhere and now cost less than RAN.

I think this will not happen, but we will see. I dont know how your break-even price is 0.90c (probably in CA). Mine is 0.40c for R1T vs F150 (in TX).

They are also usually installed with shared power cabinets, so if all stations are used you will never peak 200kwh.

My first choice is always Tesla SC (never failed me), then anything else if I have no other choice. As anything else is basically a casino bet - may or may not work. May or may not derate , etc

For me, ICE appeals much more to me on road trips due to the overall convenience and time saved. Much more so than cost reasons.

I hope charging speeds increase signficantly in the years to come.

I charge at home having solar power. I do little DCFC, when I do it costs about fifty to sixty cents per Kwh. I consider the cost to be part of the cost for the trip and I judge that cost before I do it.

Rivian just raised RAN pricing 47% over President’s Day weekend 2025. Montrose, CO was $0.36 Thursday 2/13/2025 when I used the RAN, and increased by 47% to $0.53 Monday 2/17/2025. Similarly, Salida, CO had been $0.36, which increased to $0.43 two months ago and is now $0.54.
the L2 Rivian chargers in Montrose Co are still at 0.18/kwh. So take a long coffee break at Looney beans or shop Natural Grocers / Target near by. At 36cents Rivian may not have covered DMEA's demand change or margin may have been minimal. Yes we want Rivian to survive!

Yes, for most. But I'll gladly pay a small premium a couple times a year knowing that my total operating cost overall is far less than gas.
Plus it's more comfortable, more enjoyable overall to drive, and I feel better knowing I'm not continuing to pollute for the sake of my extended trip.

We've gone from a 1-EV + 1 ICE household to 2x BEV household...both Rivian's too. And I don't think we'll ever go back, to be honest!
