"So What Kind of Car is That?"

All of us have been asked "So What Kind of Car is That?" For those times you're not around to explain: "It's a Rivian made in Normal, Illinois by Rivian. It's a fully electric. It's the best vehicle I have ever owned." You might want to put a sticker on the back window so people at least know it's a electric vehicle and hopefully the Rivian on the lift let's them know it's not a Ford, Toyota or Tesla.

I ran across the this vinyl sticker on a Facebook group but thought I'd post it here for others that might want to do a little advertising for Rivian.

That's the one I get most. Then you explain it and then they still ask who makes it afterwards.

As for the made in USA sticker not so sure I would brag about it as almost everything visible has a made in China stamp on it.

IMO, people who ask that either need literacy assistance or just not thinking. Who looks at Colorado, RAM or F-150 and asks "but who makes it?". No one ever. Manufactures' names are right there on the tailgate. And the letters R I V I A N aren't subtle.

I get the “yeah but who makes it” a lot too. I think people are expecting our response to be a known automaker like Ford, GM, BMW, etc. Someone even assumed my R1S was made by Tesla.

I'm sure the license plate in the first post translates as: "It's an EV", not "It's a NEV"

Not that it has anything to do with this conversation, but in the context of vehicles, a NEV is a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle - battery powered, four-wheeled vehicle with top speed of up to 25 mph; only legal on roads up to a speed limit of 35 mph. Many people would call them glorified golf carts. However, they have standard lights, seat belts, mirrors. They also must be titled, registered, and insured.

Sometimes a personal interaction is more rewarding. Once I talk with people who are curious I break down the misunderstanding of EVs. But you’re right, ”it’s on the internet, look it up.”
