Is Rivian’s NACS adapter usable on other EV’s?

I’m sure this is a dumb question, but…I’ve got a 2021 Volvo EV and just got notified their adapter is available now. I’m still waiting on my Rivian one. Volvo is charging $230. If I wait for the free Rivian adapter can I use that in the Volvo?

If the Volvo has Tesla charging capabilities. If you can buy an adapter and charge your Volvo at superchargers now then it will work. The manufacturer has to be enabled and the only ones I know for sure are Ford, GM and Rivian.

I hope Polestar doesn't charge more for the same adapter. I just put myself on a waitlist for one since the service center didnt have pricing info on it yet.

I haven't had a need but I would imagine it would work on any vehicle that is CCS1. Just about vehicle warranty info.

Volvo and Polestar just got enabled by Tesla.

FYI, when I got my Ford adapter I used it for my Rivian and my GM vehicle. I got my Rivian adapter as well and can use it on any of them. Still waiting for GM to ship theirs, but no hurry.

Will it plug in to your volvo and the supercharger? Yes. But it won't work until Volvo's are opened up to the Supercharger network.

As others have said - it will technically work, but the "has Tesla enabled this manufacturer yet" is the important part. As is "has the vehicle manufacturer enabled it on their end for your vehicle" (although that slightly less, see below.)

Volvo was just turned on by Tesla today. (And Volvo-related Polestar.)

On the vehicle front, it looks like the vehicle-side to enable the vehicle to know which Superchargers are compatible, and to enable plug-and-charge style billing will be coming soon; so until your vehicle gets the update, you'd have to use the Tesla app, create a Tesla account, and add billing information to your Tesla account.

Both companies are updating their Android-powered infotainment software so Tesla Supercharger stations show up in their vehicle’s navigation. The update will also include real-time availability of each station, as well as a seamless way to pay for each charging session.

It is near-guaranteed that the Volvo $230 adapter is identical manufactured-by-Tesla one that Ford and Rivian are giving out. (My Ford and Rivian adapters are absolutely identical.) And both work on both vehicles.

Yes. The fun part is you can even start the session through the Rivian app as long as the vehicle is "allowed" to charge on the superchargers.

Any Tesla NACS to CCS-1 Adapter will work on any EV. This provided of course Tesla has enabled them. As someone correctly stated here Volvo/Polestar got access! So currently it works with Ford, Rivian, GM, and Volvo/Polestar with more to come in future.
