Not too surprising. Most of us agree that Tesla's (semi AP) system is miles ahead of Rivians. The expectation is that we will get there and beyond, some day.

Rivian has another 138 years until they'll get to Tesla's FSD level....
I play a game every day on the freeway - how many times would my truck try to kill me today by following a crack on the road and steer into a random lane, almost killing 3 cars-worth of people. I usually give a high number and the truck always win.........

No thanks. It’s easy to clip a “good” streak of FSD. But it is nowhere near reliable to be “full self driving”. I’ve owned three Teslas, two with FSD. IMO, it’s never going to get to L3
If you haven't owned a tesla in recent months, you can't really understand how good they got. the latest updates made these car FSD beasts!

I had it till Aug, when I traded it in for my second Rivian. It’s still nowhere near full self driving. And Tesla has reached the point that V3 FSD hardware cannot take on any more parameters, without giving them up elsewhere. Which means it’s now a trade off of what features to keep and discard.

Vision only L3 driving is fundamentally flawed.

Yeah, that's recent enough for you to experience it the same way that I did. I was amazed by it.

I read that Tesla changed the way their AI was learning, they went away from the driving data and data points being captured to video/visual AI learning, based off a crap-ton of driving video captured, that changed their FSD and leapfrogged how much better it is from prior iterations.

The referenced post does not appear to indicate what the release version is. With that said, here's a recent Motor Trend article regarding FSD 12.5.x

Motor Trend - Sept 27

How Bad Is Tesla's Full Self Driving Feature, Actually? Third-Party Testing Paints Dark Picture
According to testing firm AMCI, Tesla’s FSD software can’t drive more than 13 miles without needing intervention.
...
AMCI says its test covered over 1,000 miles of use and, in short, showed that the performance of Tesla’s FSD software is “suspect.” This isn’t the first time Tesla has caught criticism for FSD. For years, Tesla FSD software has been a source of controversy for the automaker. Tesla has dealt with everything from being called out by the California DMV for false advertising to being investigated by NHTSA.

AMCI says it conducted its tests in a Tesla Model 3 with FSD versions 12.5.1 and 12.5.3 across four different driving environments: city streets, rural two-lane highways, mountain roads, and freeways. AMCI was impressed with FSD’s ability to rely solely on cameras. (Tesla is the only automaker whose driver assistance systems of FSD's ambition operate using only cameras and, essentially, short-distance parking sensors, rather than a more complex—and expensive—combination of cameras, sensors, radar, and lidar, which can paint a much clearer picture with more redundancies than Tesla's camera array.) However, AMCI found that, on average, when operating FSD, human intervention is required at least once every 13 miles to maintain safe operation.

I actually love to drive, and unless FSD is truly full self driving, where I can completely stop paying attention to the road, it doesn't have any value to me. I have no desire to simply baby-sit a computer doing an okay job and driving, yet try to kill me at a moments notice.

According to the independent tests, FSD can go 13 miles on average before you need to intervene. This number needs to get into the 500k mile range before I would consider it safe. They have a long way to go.

Don't be fooled by these videos and there are plenty of it. They do these videos on empty/traffic free roads. They also do these videos for the sole purpose of a review, so the driver is fully aware of what FSD is doing.

In reality and in real world usage, FSD is pure and absolute horse s***.
I disengage FSD once every 10km for a lot of stupid things and those experiences adds up even for a short 30km trip, causing it to be a very stressful driving experience.

The basic AP is by far the most stress free ADAS system Tesla has.
