So far there have been three scapes/dings on my R1T while it has ben street parked. Gear Guard didn't catch any of them.

It's kind of a useless feature. Worse than useless since it promises something and then fails to deliver.

Park as far away as possible and I agree that GG is useless on Gen 1 for sure. PDR should work but not sure about the scrapes part. These doors are so flimsy according to the body shop I brought mine to. Door skins are paper thin and flex so easily making PDR difficult due to stretching.

I generally find this function pretty useless even if you have clear face picture of perpetrator. Nobody going to do anything because I presume it’s not that big of a crime in their eyes.

Supposedly rock sliders / running boards eliminate door dings as the doors hit the slider/board

I feel your pain because I hate people who are careless and ding doors. But, even if it did work, it’s useless other than to further piss you off watching the person do it, unless you want to get revenge. Law enforcement won’t care at all.

You need to find a different PDR guy if they said that. The person I use said since the truck is mostly aluminum it makes it slightly harder to pull dents out but not impossible if you know what you are doing. He pulled two out of mine and I can't tell where they were. One was really deep.

I've found it also helps to raise the ride height to get those running boards higher...

I was just looking to post something similar, GG seems to be missing a lot more “activity” lately, it’s definitely reduced after the 2 recent updates.

I had the Rivian SC use their PDR guy and they said it was all they could do on the passenger door. I used a local Rivian certified shop who had PDR, he did his best but I'd have to get a new door skin, repaint and Rivian was willing to pay for it all. I ultimately turned them down for that door skin/repaint but the 2nd PDR guy said the same with door that it'll be too stretched to go any further. It's a factory issue that was on the truck Day 1 but it looks much better. It was dented outwards and you had to really look from an angle to see it but once you notice it, it's hard to unnotice...

The body shop is going to repaint inside the driver side door and pull out the dent from the SC closing the door when the striker plate was misaligned and that plunger dented the metal and rubber lower door strip. Two different dents but frustrating to deal with. SC tried to insinuate that I must've kicked the inside of the door denting it but that never happened. That door plunger wasn't aligned right and hit the metal instead of going through the hole in the frame which bent the area.

I knew I should've waited a year ago for my R1S to be built instead of getting one already in stock. I would've waited maybe a month more but probably less issues.

Same, I have to park near people at one location and it never catches the car leaving I know I was parked next to. Tried soft-resets, disabling/enabling GG altogether and it's wonky at best.

It is getting harder to find really good PDR people. The Rivian SC used their guy to fix my dents (all from the factory) and he got all but one fixed. The one that was left had a raised point he said he couldn't do anything with. I took it to the guy I use and he spent an hour slowly tapping the raised point back down and sometimes going to the back side to push an area back out. He told me a lot of the newer people are hesitant to push these raised points back down for fear of cracking the paint. When he was finished I couldn't see where it had been. He also mentioned aluminum is more difficult because it doesn't remember where it is supposed to be like steel does. The only time I have ever been told the metal was too fatigued to remove a dent was on a Subaru after the second hail repair. The guy told me if we had another hail storm they would have to cut the roof off and replace it because the metal had been pushed out one too many times. He also said Subaru metal was paper thin compared to the other manufacturers.

I haven’t seen a GG incident in weeks. Tried turning off and on but it doesn’t seem to get triggered anymore.
