Hello-
My Rivian was delivered on 8/29/24 in the PM and my husband and I picked it up from the South San Francisco Site. On 9/12/24 (2 weeks after delivery) between 7:35-7:50 AM the car malfunctioned while getting on the freeway. I felt like it was a dangerous situation. The regen breaks stopped working and then a bunch of icons popped up on my dash. The car wasn’t able to go more than 20 MPH. I got to the side of the road and called Rivian and re-started the system (held hazard lights and left button down for 15 seconds). I was able to drive it to Rivian but it still had some icons. The servicer that took my car put this under “infotainment systems”. This was more than infotainment. The car itself actually stopped working as usual. The sensors around the back of the car didn’t work appropriately the entire drive to the Rivian dealership. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS HAPPEN WITH THEIR BRAND NEW 2025 R1S? What is going on?
also dealership customer service is so poor. It’s unfortunate. They told me I may not get my car back for 2 weeks and the “servicer” that took down my information must have not been paying attention because his notes are wrong. Anyone know who to contact in these situations? Anyone higher up that may actually care more about the brand and the safety of its customers?

Welcome to the site and Rivian ownership. Sorry this happened to you. The good news is that Rivian will take care of you. The not so good news is yes, they are backed up on service turnaround time. No, there's not really anyone to complain to in order to get quicker service. If you browse around this site, you'll see similar issues and plenty of discussion about it. My only comment you may not want to hear is - did you do your homework researching Rivian service before you made your purchase decision? This issue is well known.

The reason they entered infotainment on your order is that yes, it COULD be the computer system/hardware causing this issue and not an actually braking or mechanical failure. Your Rivian is first and foremost a computer on wheels and that's how they approach troubleshooting. Keep in mind that the service advisor has probably seen this issue before and made notes according to her/his knowledge based on previous service orders from others.

Yeah as Zoidz stated, service is a bit lacking. They are still a young company and have a lot of processes and procedures to work out / figure out.

You should be able to see the service ticket in your mobile app. From there you should be able to add notes. I have always used the app to start the service process so it may be different when you take the vehicle straight in without a service ticket. Within the service ticket it also gives you the option to call.

Yeah I'm sorry your going through this. It's frustrating.

Service is backed up but Rivian will take care of it for you. Hopefully they put you in a decent loaner.

You can reach out to service support via chat and they should be able to add or clarify your concerns. Also, the app now has a chat function where you can send messages directly to the service center.

Ya, I would definitely ask for a loaner. I had my truck in for service for most of May, I didn't ask for a loaner because I have a third car and figured a week or two without the truck would be ok. But, when it got to be almost a month, I wished I had asked for a loaner.

my day old gen2 went turtle this morning with every light lighting up, sensors off, suspension needs services, no hold "use brakes". Hard reset fixed it, they are going to read the logs and get back to me.

I had a mostly working gen1, only service for a rear motor click a couple times :)

Sad! That’s why i have been delaying a purchase all this time. I don’t have time to deal with car issues and I really needed a useable and reliable vehicle. (It’s just me right!? ?)

Really makes me want to change my mind on an upcoming delivery. ?

They give you a loaner, at least?

Is it driveable after hard reset? Would you be comfortable driving it around?

I did do my research and have 4 good friends who own Rivians. They have had little to no issues. I really thought if an issues like this popped up it would be at least a few months in. Not 2 weeks. Sad thing is that I’ve barely even used the car. Was out of town most of last week. So only had a weeks worth of use and maybe 150 miles total.

I'm in the no issues camp - 16k miles, 0 service events.....

How is this different from almost every other brand? A vehicle is an assembly of parts, many of which are sourced from suppliers which can have their issues. I’ve had more issues, bigger issues, and longer-lasting issues with new cars I’ve purchased from established mainstream manufacturers.

Yes, Rivian still needs to do better. I think they’re working hard to improve their pre-delivery quality control in order reduce delays with service. If they cannot get the service times under control before the launch of the R2 (lower cost / higher volume & which will probably have its own teething pains) it is probably going to be very bad news for the long-term prospects of Rivian. I think Rivian leadership knows this and they still have over a year to fix it assuming a 2026Q1 launch.
