Should Rivian allow customers with non-Rivian vehicles to charge before opening RAN to everyone?

I'm obviously biased. I say yes.

I could benefit from them doing this for a long trip we have scheduled in October, but there are potentially even quicker chargers from competitors a short distance away from the RAN station that we'll otherwise plan on using. So it's not out of a place of need for me.

Can I go on the trip with you and your family? My vote is dependent on your answer.

Well, there's no gear tunnel to smuggle you into. But I bet you'd fit in the frunk!

I've traveled in worse...Ok I vote for RAN charging for non-Rivians for family only.

Should I bring my swimming trunks or parka or both?

I can't imagine this would be hard to implement. I'd assume that its just matching VIN to account, so you just need to a way to manually add a list of VINs.

That is an interesting concept. Not sure how they could control that, I suppose you would have to start from your app, then it would allow any vehicle you started it for.

I wish Tesla would have granted Tesla pricing for non-Tesla for people that own a Tesla rather than the membership pricing.

In your travels you may get a pleasant surprise and find EA stations still charging by the minute. So far I found 3, membership pricing was 33 cents a minute.

Quality Inn Airport North (Sioux Falls, SD)
76.7 kWh, max rate 208 kWh, cost $12.57 to 82%

Walmart 965 - Tomah, WI 222 W McCoy Blvd
77 kWh, max rate 216 kWh, cost $11.84 to 78%

Sam's Club 8106 (Montgomery, AL) 1080 EASTERN BLVD
79 kWh, max rate 219 kWh, cost 13.26 to 88%

This is how I'm imagining it. I can already start a session from the app. I'm not sure what purpose this ability currently serves, since all Rivian vehicles are plug n' charge compatible with their own stations already.

I would be happy to be a beta tester for this, see if they really do support 300kw.

There is zero financial/business reason for Tesla to do that.

One potential problem would be if a Ford driver sees another Ford driver charging at a RAN, they will assume they can also, not knowing that only Rivian owners have access to that site. So next time they need to charge, they could be confused and assume they can charge at RAN sites also, potentially getting stranded if they thought they could charge there.

To me, its a little hypocritical to want access to Tesla's network but still hold Rivians as exclusive.

No one with any authority to do anything will ever read this thread. And our votes wouldn't matter anyway.

Technically there are 2 potential benefits.

Promotes brand loyalty which is kind of a lost art these days.

Would get more non-Tesla usage. I can tell you, at least for me, I would have used more Superchargers over EA stations on this trip if I had Tesla pricing. By the time I get home the 25 EA charges I have would have been added to the 6 Supercharger uses.

One of my friends that works for Rivian said a photo of my truck I had posted on this forum ended up being shown in one of his meetings, so I disagree with your assertion.

Are they in a position of decision making authority to develop/maintain/change RAN charging standard operating procedures?

I believe the ability was mostly to prepare for "other" vehicles. But there have been those where plug and charge would fail, but starting from the app would work.

All that said, have you actually taken your "other" vehicle to the RAN and try to start the charge in the app before plugging in just to see if it would go?
