These lists are so bizarre to me and feel both 100% accurate and nonsense at the same time (not because of Rivian).

Porsche at #1 seems pretty accurate, I've driven all their models in normal driving and at the track and they are spot on for the driver. Audi owned by VW with many shared Porsche platform components is dead last which seems silly at best. Somewhere in the middle makes sense as she models are great and others are not great.

When these lists say anything remotely negative they are bs shill media companies with untrustworthy metrics not worth a damn, when they say positive things however it’s the word of god ?

JD power rates a transmission failure and an infotainment restart as one failure. And they are pretty opaque with their methods. I don't trust them anymore.

Well it’s more than that, it’s actually any complaint reported. It could be as benign as a new owner not understanding a feature and it gets logged as a “failure/complaint” that impacts a vehicle’s quality rating.

With this study, any idea why the 3 EV only brands on the list “do not meet study award criteria”? It seems strange to score them and then claim they don’t meet criteria to earn an award. Is it fee related? I can see Tesla not paying for them and perhaps Rivian.

Volvo would pay. But they are still on the list.

Not being transparent about said "award criteria" makes the whole thing suspect.

I went to JD Power's Web site. I didn't see anything about award criteria. But they did tout their ability to package favorable results -- for a fee -- that manufacturers can publicize.

Consumers Union/Consumer Reports is still a nonprofit that takes no corporate money. CU/CR doesn't even allow manufacturers to publicize their ratings, because of the danger of misleading "cherry picking." So I still trust CR, but I now take JD Power with a big dose of skepticism.

Best wishes!

You would never know it from following the reddit sub for Rivian.
90% of that sub does not even own a Rivian. It's so weird.

Obligatory note: satisfaction != reliability. It can also be a proxy for niche or a marker for early adopters. Given that Rivian was the only seven seat “real” electric SUV out there until recently, and has only two models, I can understand why satisfaction is so high.

I’ve been a longtime follower of JD Power’s “most satisfying” toilet paper list.
