I bought awesome CarpodGo T3 Pro 60 FPS CarPlay screens for both my Rivians and love them. 5G connectivity from my phone, every app imaginable, and no extra fees over what I already pay for cellular. They will save a bunch of money in the long term and the experience is far superior to Rivian. Navigation actually works, for example. Siri isn’t great, but better than Rivian, and Google Assistant is first rate.
What mount did you use?

Surprised at the whining. Guess some people who bought their cars believed Rivian was a charity.
Until they talk about stock share value. Then they want Rivian to charge for everything and criticize Rivian for shipping a singular paint pen in a box that is mostly empty.

Rivian said from day 1 this would eventually be a paid feature. No, we didn’t know exactly what it would include or how much it would cost, but we all knew it was coming. So the outrage from some is a little weird to me especially since it’s optional. If you don’t want to pay for it - don’t??‍♂

They seem to either get criticized for charging for things (a path to being profitable), or they get criticized for losing too much money. Literally can’t please anyone no matter what they do.

I think there is a balance, but I do love how Rivian is doing generous things as it speaks to a desire to be more than just a typical money-making car company. However, they do need to make some money to survive and thrive. And, it's a SDV, so why are people shocked about a subscription service model?

Exactly, it's been in Rivian's business plan and revenue projections for years that value added services would be a revenue stream, as well as in the terms and conditions of purchase.

Just like the NACS adapter. They didn't have to send owners one for free, they chose to. But just because they said every owner would be eligible for one, you have people thinking and acting like they're owed something.

I've seen multiple posts, here and elsewhere, of Gen2 owners being upset their Gen2-only Apple Watch As Key isn't ready at delivery.

Just today I saw a post expecting video casting to be included with their newly delivered car.

I'm sorry but I disagree. Rivian has put themselves in this situation because they insist on a near pathological desire to control the stack and avoid outside developers. So people are waking up now saying "what? If I don't pay I'm gonna lose Spotify? I'm not gonna have this or that?" Other manufacturers largely give the customer some degree of choice. If they want the manufacturers suite of products and the bandwidth that they require, they pay. If not, they can use phone mirroring (CarPlay or AA) and not have to pay for another subscription. Rivian hasn't given us that option. Right now it's pay or else. Yes, they have said that phone tethering will be available but I'm very sceptical as to whether or not that will materialize.

Curious about this myself. Would love to see photos of it mounted. The magnetic base seems convenient since I’m guessing you could just take the display down when not needed or wanted.

"Gear Guard Live Cam" is the only added feature that I'd want from the paid subscription. I don't mind $12.50 a month so I'll probably sign up.

But you purchased the car knowing that "they insist on a near pathological desire to control the stack and avoid outside developers." CarPlay and AA are not in the cards right now, likely never, can we just be grown ups and not cry about things we know aren't supposed to be there? You can cry about tethering if/when it does not materialize since they said it will be available.

I sure hope they do some work on the apps before charging money for them. No way I'm paying to use the TuneIn app as it currently works. It's terrible. Sounds like Tidal is just as bad.
I'm also really hoping for some form of USB music connectivity. The only non-streaming option now is bluetooth, which makes the sub-par stereo sound even worse.
