But it’s free through 2024 of you buy a new one now…
I've heard that for RAP+. I may have missed it but I did not hear it that for connect+
Just to clarify, RAP+ is free through the end of 2024 for new buyers (Gen 2 only since Gen 1 doesn't have the hardware).

Connect+ will be free for all owners for 60 days once it goes live. After that, it will be $14.99/month ($19.99 CAD) or $149.99/year ($199.99 CAD) for everyone.

I suspect new cars sold after C+ goes live will also include some trial period to get users hooked, but that hasn't been announced yet.

$15/month is not cheap. I may not go for it. I am currently paying $10/month for my Tesla.
I was also hoping C+ would land at $9.99 but -- and correct me here if I'm wrong as I don't own a Tesla -- I think the biggest distinguishing feature is that Tesla Premium Connectivity does not include hotspot connectivity (whereas C+ does).

Will be curious to see if there are any limits to the hotspot data, if it's unlimited, that's a great deal, if not, I don't care enough about the other options to pay for C+.

I would understand if they put restrictions on it, even though I'd be disappointed.

Rivian has been paying for them the entire time, they always said this was temporary, but, not everyone heard that, or forgot, but it's been the plan the whole time.
It's not something that's been relayed during delivery, or at least not at mine which was after the 6/4 announcement.

My understanding was that additional features outside of currently available, like Apple Music, will be available through Connect+. I don’t use hotspot; but it makes sense to be put behind the paywall

Currently, all I use is only Spotify and defined don’t want any video at all; even sitting around for hours for charging. It is good time to find solitude amid chaos around me. So on top of paying for Spotify ($20), now I need to pay $15- overall $35/month or $420/year. I feel it is wasteful. I might need to stock up on tape recorders and rock with headphones inside Rivian ?

right so, unfortunately no company can ensure everyone sees / reads everything but in 2022 this was stated it would no longer be free sometime soon, so it’s more like if they could have had FAQ’s that everyone sees it would be more widely known

I get that people make mistakes, but I wasn't involved with Rivian in 2022. The only info I saw on Connect+ was the message about it "coming soon" which didn't make much sense to me since I already had those features for free.

Instead Rivian should just come out and say "features identified in Connect+ have been historically been provided for free to early adopters, but we will be moving to a subscription model for Connect+ as of XYZ date." I know that's not very palatable, but at least its not confusing either.

On the last AMA, a comment was posted about how awesome it would be if Rivian allowed native apps to use phone tethering instead of Connect+ and Wassym responded with " Yes, we will add phone tethering this summer! "

I’m so looking forward to streaming endless data to all my precious devices in my outdoor adventure vehicle. May the interwebz be with you always! /s

Jokes aside, I’m simply looking for less subscriptions not more.

It does mention tethering will be allowed without C+. Maybe that will allow streaming from the built-in music apps using the Rivian WiFi connected to your phone's hotspot. I definitely won't use Bluetooth streaming as it sounds like garbage.

I realize that nobody likes to keep adding yet another subscription to their monthly outlay, but look at what ICE manufacturers are doing---if I want to maintain access to the connectivity app for my Jeep, then I have to pay $312/year (but they have a 50% off offer every year) and then there's the updated navigation mapping software for $150 that comes out every year. Of course with CP/AA, that one becomes totally unnecessary with Waze, Google Maps, etc... And if you want a WiFi Hotspot, that's $10/month.

This is just the way it is now. At least heated seats isn't part of a monthly subscription as BMW did a couple of years ago.

If that’s the expiration date, looks like this will be in the next software update.
