I see so many posts about the air conditioning not being any good and everyone seems to think cabinover heat protection like Tesla would fix it. I have a 24’ R1T DMP and a 23’ Tesla Model 3 Performance.
I decided to test them against each other. It’s currently 91 and I’m in Los Angeles. Both vehicles are in full sun. The R1T started at 120 at 12:50 pm and it was 46 at 1:17. The Tesla was 101 at 1:17 with cabin over heat protection on. It was 62 at 1:45 I set both to LO
I personally think the auto setting works better in my Tesla. I go from freezing to hot in the R1T and find that manual settings provide more consistent comfort.
The R1T cools down way faster but there is less air space then the Tesla.

What does that even mean. Maybe you need glasses. I can see my post no problem.
It’s a lot of screenshots that take up more than the whole screen each so it’s pretty difficult to put together any type of understanding. I’m sure you’re making a good point though.

Using the vehicle’s in-cabin temperature sensors makes this comparison unfair. I find Rivian's internal and external temperature sensors to be inaccurate, imprecise, or both. I’m not an HVAC person by trade, but I find if really hard to believe that the cabin on your Rivian was truly 46° with our temperatures and the vehicle sitting in the sun. Did you measure the cabin temperatures with anything else?

My ac has been worked on twice less than 5k miles, finally it gets cold. If it is above 90 degrees, the ac motor gets extremely loud , sounding like a loose impeller in a boat motor. You can’t even carry on a conversation due to how loud. I am told this is normal. I am just about ready to sell it. There is no way that the very loud weed eater sound is normal, to where you have to turn up radio or speak louder to hear over the ac motor.

I’ve never had a problem with my AC. I live in hot and humid Virginia. My R1S gets cold fast and gets the cabin cold quickly. The noise is pretty bad, though.

I find the ac to struggle badly here in LA compared to our ice cars. The glass also seems cheap and doesn't filter any heat. I have a roof shade on our R1S. It would be unbearable without it.

I have owned two R1T’s, the first a QM Launch Edition, the second (a DM) being a replacement vehicle for the first. I live in a climate where the lows during the winter can reach near zero and the highs driving down to the desert in the summer can be above 115 degrees. Most of the time the temperatures are much more moderate. Both vehicles’ “Auto” HVAC systems are the worst of any vehicle I have owned, with the exception of a 1955 Jeep which had no heater nor AC. Using the manual controls help but the systems still have a mind of their own. Certainly Rivian can do better.

My Tesla definitely had better AC all around than the Rivian. Its auto setting was impeccable and I think I didn’t touch the temperature in months. Also, the way the air flows in the Tesla is fantastic because it just envelops you rather than blowing at you. The Rivian requires adjustment pretty regularly. But at least it’s not as terrible as all ICE vehicles are. I have a loaner Cadillac right now and the AC is awful all around.

Amen! 46 degrees? My refrigerator might do that on a good day.

Lol 46 degrees. My app says the same thing but that's obviously not the actual cabin temp that's reporting on the app. I'm guessing Rivian put their temp sensor literally inside the ac air vent (vs inside the cabin like it should be) but even then the air wouldn't be 46 degrees.
