NYT Article

"His image as an erratic, impulsive manager appears to have rubbed off on the cars, raising doubts in some people’s minds about their quality and helping to explain why Tesla sales have been falling. On Tuesday, the company reported that its global sales in the second quarter fell 4.8 percent from the same period a year earlier, after an 8.5 percent drop in the first three months of the year. "

Some of the more than 7,500 people who responded to The Times’s questionnaire said they were offended by what they perceived as antisemitism from Mr. Musk, which he denies. Some were upset by the way Mr. Musk has managed Twitter, now called X, since he bought the company in 2022. He fired thousands of employees and removed guardrails on content shared on the social media platform.
...
A vast majority of the readers who responded to the questionnaire were critical of Mr. Musk.

Those 7500 people need to be contacted by our resident CT fan(s) so they can be re-educated. Elon is an angel who was sent to earth to live among us mortals.

Alas, I doubt it would do certain CT fan(s) much good.

I used to be cheering for Tesla but with Musk's behavior over the past few years, I can't wait for others to take the EV mantle and run with it. I know plenty of people won't buy Tesla because of him. Forget that there is a ton of competition now exposing Tesla's weak products.

I still like Tesla's vision and wish the company well in the future as they evolve the business model. The day to day executive management is hurting the company.

It's a fake narrative that Elon is killing sales. The most recent year, a Tesla was the best-selling car in the entire world in 2023. Not best-selling EV, it outsold every ICE car too. And it's on track to take the title of Best-Selling Car in the World this year too. That would not be possible if people were avoiding the brand in any great number because of Elon. Elon drives sales, but nobody can please everyone, all the time.

Only on a Rivian forum have I seen someone claim the best selling car in the world is a "weak product". LMFAO!

Sometimes it pays to engage your brain rather than be spoon-fed from the biased mainstream media and others who hate success. In other words, think about how dumb this narrative is.

Its NYT, what do you expect.

Also what are the actual number for the "some" of more than 7,500 people? Is it 3?, 100?, 1,000? or majority (more than 3, 750)? Vague and unsubstantiated.

People have been saying that for years. Not a new thing. Their circulation and readership must be dwindling more.

The fact is Tesla sales are down, that is why he is cutting prices and doing whatever he can to sell products. Having driven a Model 3/Y in the past I wouldn't buy one over the competition any day of the week. It is really cheap inside, boring outside. Sure it has sold a lot, it was the only game in town. Tesla sales are down but Hyundai, Kia, BMW, etc etc are all increasing their EVs sales, people don't have to play by Elon's rules anymore.

Also why get so negative and mightier than thou. Chill out and relax. Enjoy yourself a little bit.

Yeah, we won't own another one, at least into the foreseeable future.

His erratic, asinine behavior drives too many design decisions. Radar? Nope. USS? Nope. Because HERF DERF VISION! Yoke without VR steering? Yes, BECAUSE PEW PEW ITS A SPACESHIP!

I just can't :CWL:

Which is worse? Legally expressing your opinion even though some people may disagree? Or hiding your opinion because you are afraid you might get canceled? Many people take the second path. It is shame it has to be that way.

The issue - despite your framing - is not whether or not he can express his opinion. The problem is the toxicity of his opinion.

His (not that) veiled antisemitism, sexism, stupidity is the issue.

No idea who responded to the NYT survey, but here is another anecdotal data point: I have a M3, a Tesla solar system but won’t spend another $ with the South African neo fascist and bought cash my R1S ??‍♂

I am new to this forum, but the obsession ( 100%negative way) here with Musk and Tesla is hilarious :CWL: I have been on TMC for over 6 years and rarely ever there’s any mention of other makes!
So sorry to bother you with our personal opinions that may differ from your own :CWL:

I hear you, but I have not seen any opinion from him that is toxic. Do you have specific examples?

Everyone says stupid things, especially when it gets taken out of context. But toxic? Maybe you can help me out something specific that is not taken out of context.

Well, this is the "Competitors" area, it's not much different vs. this part of TMC:

https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/forums/electric-vehicles.46/

Where discussion of the EX30, the Mach-E, and even the recent VW/Rivian merger threads had their fair share of "Other cars bad / Only Tesla good" sort of mentality.
