Sounds like the AC compressor and they are loud in Gen1, that probably has not changed a lot in Gen2? Loud is relative, next to an ICE engine running it would not be much louder.
Is it normal for it to run for 45 minutes after driving? TBH, I've not had AC issues or felt like it was loud like several others have posted, but that could just be that the "Wheel of Issues" landed in a different area when I got my R1S. Or I'm an oblivious idiot... or both.

45 minutes? No, that seems odd, unless you have the truck in a mode where the air conditioning is staying on, like pet mode. I suppose it could be something else, but from the video it sounds like the compressor…..

Edit: Does it does this ā€œevery timeā€ you shut down, or only in specific circumstances? I don’t DCFC hardly ever and I haven’t done it in hot weather, but in hot weather it could be running to cool the battery during DCFC….? Others here would know the answer to that better than me….

Lol yeah I timed it. I plug it in the garage and for 45mins it sounded like that. It's cooling off the battery.

Everyone delivers defective cars.

I too have had great luck with Tesla's but some of those were delivered defective as well.

Frustrating for sure, but Rivian has been pretty good about fixing the issues I have had.

Why do these posts always lack so much information and Feel vague on purpose? I have no doubt something is going on… but they always come from profiles with only a few posts/interactions.

Something just doesnt feel right.

Can also confirm Gen 2 vehicles AC compressor still loud as hell; 0 improvement to that issue.
Not surprising it's the same from the exterior, but is it better on the interior? I thought the move was to better isolate it from the cabin, which wouldn't necessarily improve the exterior noise.

Just received the new R1s Gen 2. On the first day, the AC stopped working. After that, every couple of days, other features stopped working. There was NO response from Rivian. Finally, the car made a very loud noise and then stopped completely. I am very upset with Rivian, especially since I have had a good experience with Tesla.
Sorry to hear, but not surprised by this. I had a similar experience in May. New truck has lots of loose trim that made it sound like it was falling apart on the highway and several seals not installed correctly. Ends up mine was damaged and repair (poorly) prior to sale. The morning after delivery I tried to schedule an appointment for service and it was showing 6 weeks out as next available so I just drove back to the Atlanta delivery/ service center and made the situation urgent since I had owned it less than 24 hours and clearly there was no pre-delivery inspection. I tried to use the 7 day return policy after confirming it did have work done before purchase but was told I couldn’t because it wasn’t a lease. I’m currently working with the GA Attorney General. Mine has been in for service for 16 days and I have owned it less than 6 weeks. The company isn’t read for mainstream vehicle sales yet - just fanboys and people willing to put up with anything because it’s the only real choice out there if you don’t want a stupid Cybertruck or a boring F150 lightning. Good luck!

"Heat pump!"
Rivian R1T R1S Rivian delivers defective cars. 1000011396

The new Gen2 heat pump "feature" is more efficient, but less effective than AC compressor or transitive heater from Gen1. I'll happily sacrifice the jigawatts to be cool in summer and warm in winter.

It could be a troll who made up a story about a broken gen 2 R1 and doctored a video for attention on a Rivian forum…

…or someone who just dropped a large amount on a new vehicle that’s gone fubar and they’re reaching out in anger and frustration in any venue they can.

I’m a big fan of acting out of anger and frustration, but everyone else beat me to the ā€œcool first postā€ comments, so magnanimous was the only option left open. Hopefully @Mikexxness can provide some details so the forum can help them, or they execute the return so they are alleviated of their issues, but we will have to wait and see if the radio silence continues.

A lot of what I heard in the video is fan noise. If it's really hot outside and your charging then yes it can run for a while afterwards but shouldn't be 45m.

My understanding is gen 2 moved the compressor (now a heat pump) away from the cabin for better NVH in cabin.

If it's hot out though even gen 1 will have loud fan noise outside the vehicle.

I can't speak to the cooling performance of Gen2 as I haven't tested one yet. If designed properly the heat pump should cool just as good as the gen 1 system.

If there is a cooling issue, and I know this is a stupid question, but do you have it set to Auto? Also does it improve at all if you put The temperature all the way down to low?

That happens with every brand. Including Tesla. Bitching here ain't gonna fix anything. Did you try opening a ticket in the Rivian app?

Rivian does not respond quickly to messages or emails. They used to but lately it takes 2-3 days to get a response. So i would suggest calling them and telling them your vehicle doesn’t feel safe to drive. Good luck and sorry about your problems.
