Just received the new R1s Gen 2. On the first day, the AC stopped working. After that, every couple of days, other features stopped working. There was NO response from Rivian. Finally, the car made a very loud noise and then stopped completely. I am very upset with Rivian, especially since I have had a good experience with Tesla.

News Flash... Every manufacturer of anything occasionally delivers defective products. That is why we have warranties, in my experience Rivian will make everything right, if they don't as a consumer that is why we also have protection laws.

Good luck but with a 'Rivian is out to get me' attitude I don't think you will get the responses you want.. unless you are just a troll.

Hard to offer advice without more detail. Bottom line is you've got a week to return it for full refund, so they should be incentivized to help you out with any QC issues.

@Mikexxness Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your vehicle, especially as we all have high hopes for the Gen 2 R1 series. You've mentioned that you have had problems for days now; I'll note that I wouldn't necessarily expect a response from Rivian on a weekend, but I'm sure you've tried to raise them during weekday hours. Either way, could you share if you've had any specific warning messages from the vehicle and what means you've used to try and contact Rivian? I ask because there are some issues that people may have face before on Gen 1 vehicles and/or there may be common "unplug it and plug it back in" trouble-shooting that may at least get your vehicle in something of an operable condition; also, depending on what methods you used to contact Rivian, some people might be able to provide insight on other means that have a better/faster response rate.

Sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. This is a great community of Rivian owners, many of whom are extremely knowledgeable and willing to help.

We would love to help you. Could you share more details about the AC and other features that stopped working? Also, I see you posted a video of what sounds like the HVAC running. Are you saying its too loud from outside the vehicle?

Lastly, Rivian has a 7 day/1,000 mile return policy (whichever occurs first). If your disappointed with the vehicle and want to return it you can reach out and request a return. Much like Tesla these vehicles have their quirks but are totally awesome machines.

Hey I have the same thing! 2nd Gen R1S DM standard and I have the same sound after a drive. Runs for like 45mins. My AC is terrible and doesn't blow cold air. It's currently in the SC and they stated no issues detected. They've checked pressure in AC system and was in spec. Keep us in the loop on the diagnosis because I'm in the same boat of returning.

Hopefully, there will be no need to return the car for a refund. It's likely the lack of contact/assistance that can be experienced. This is frustrating. Did you attempt to contact them through a call initiated from the phone app? I have found that to be useful.

It’s hard to tell exactly from the audio, but it sounds like the AC compressor. If so, that’s “normal”.

Sounds like the AC compressor and they are loud in Gen1, that probably has not changed a lot in Gen2? Loud is relative, next to an ICE engine running it would not be much louder.

Did they specifically tell you they “checked pressure”? If so, that’s not a valid diagnosis. Pressure can be in spec but still be low or high on refrigerant charge amount which is the critical factor for proper operation.

Amen brother, the SC told me that and I was kinda surprised. They specifically told me they wouldn't check the levels because it being new they need approval from HQ. So far they've stated they checked the pressure on the system but not evac the system. I'm almost having to tell them "I want you do to X and Y". I'm am engineer by trade but I shouldn't have to hand hold them on this.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but as others have said, hard to help with so little detail. For example, even in the video you posted above, my first thought was that's about a normal operation (I have a Gen 1) for the AC when the truck has been sitting outside in the hot sun and it's just starting up...give it 3-5 minutes and it quiets down. I've also noticed that this truck is like other cars I've owned in that if it sits or a day or two in the heat, it can take the AC upwards of 10 minutes to really blow cold air.

From my experience over the past year, the quickest way I've found to get a response from Rivian is to submit a ticket via the app -- they HAVE ALWAYS called me back within 2-4 hours to ask me questions about the ticket and to troubleshoot it. Some things they've been able to help me diagnose on the phone, and others were issues for Service to address (and they just added it to the one open appointment).

As others have said, every manufacturer has vehicles that are sold with some kinks and mis-steps. These are complicated devices that work under complicated circumstances. However, that's why there's a warranty and from my experience, Rivian has done pretty good (even though they are new to the service game) ... but you have to give them a chance.
